I was wondering if it was possible to change my username.  I started this account a while back before I got really into Crypto.  Now I have another name I go by in the Crypto world and would like to change my username if possible. I would rather not start a new account as then I would have to start over with my ratings.

They don't make it easy.  If it was easy scamers would be changing names a lot.   It is a little bit of a pain if you think of some great name later, but overall the system is better to not allow changing. (In my opinion)

I suggest with low activity starting over.  Nothing against that.

since you have a newbie account, you can leave this account and create a new one with your favourite name

theymos or BadBear have changed them a couple of times in the past but it's rare, but it looks like you wont be able to change it to the name you wanted anyway since you've now taken it already  :D. Looks like you'll miss out on a lot of activity points if you abandon the other one.

Was that  changed? It used to be 10 BTC donators that could change names. I was thinking of changing mine too.

You have to be a VIP member and that's paying 50 BTC
or since you are "Newbie" Rank then just make new account. with the new name that you want

If I well remember, it used to be 10 BTC for donator rank and 50 for VIP, but maybe only the latters can change their username.

It is unlikely theymos will change username for newer members, and it would be much easier for you to make a new account with your preferred name.

As if you can't choose your desired name whilst creating the account?

Also, they should not allow name changing for anyone, it could be attracting scams.

Think that's one of the reasons why they don't do it, though the feedback won't go away even if they did.

There are several ways for you to change your username.
One is to pay 50 btc to become a VIP.
Another one is to put a lot of effort in reporting posts to become a staff. :)


Theymos could change your username for you but he seldom does it.

I was also wondering if this is possible...i thought Hero Members can change their user name...but its not possible for any one

For a very good reason else scammers would change the name each time over and over better like this and the forums is a bit more safe!

no i don't think that you can change your name but actually name is not that important as you need it for log in only usually

As everyone said that it is very difficult to change the username here but in the beta forum ( and then to the future updated forum ) there is a feature to change the username of accounts. Also the account is not linked to a distinct profile url as it is currently here at smf. (useful to spammers bad for forum)

I think user name change should be allowed for a fee.But the user profile should mention the old user name and username change date ,so that user name change for illegitimate reasons can be discouraged
