Title: How do faucets afford it
Post by: Sharkiteuthis on December 02, 2014, 03:13:06 AM
Why are they giving away free money albeit small amounts?  It's not like they're loaded with banner ads

They give such a SMALL amount they are able to.  They make more off ad's then they pay.  And if they were just starting it would not take much to fund a faucet.

Because money they are giving are so little that probably just one  banner would compensate for that. So that is not correct that faucets giving you money - faucets earns money - they are selling your actions.

We're talking sub-penny amounts here, I think I got that much in my jeans pocket right now.   :P

And no, faucets are not a worthwhile way to accrue BTC.

They ARE loaded with banner ads, and they are giving not just small but absolutely TINY amounts. The money earned from advertising is also quite small so I suspect they don't make much profit either.

I spent over half a year clicking and clicking and clicking on faucets, but if I added up all the BTC I got from them*, it would only be worth about $0.80.

There are much better ways to make money via the Internet. I wouldn't recommend faucets unless you're a beginner that wants to use them to learn how sending and receiving BTC works, or if the faucet has an affiliate program and you have a blog or something that might attract referrals.

*excluding the old Primedice 2 HH faucet, of course.

I host a faucet at http://moneyinpjs.com/BTCfaucet and yes it runs on ad revenue. I do make some profit (most times) but it depends if your users support you and don't use a adblocker.

Adblockers will kill all faucets if no one views the ads.

As a faucet owner, Please disable adblockers when using faucets...even if they don't require it. Over time, we could offer bigger prizes.  ;D

So do you also get paid if the users only use the faucet and don't click on any ads? Or is it in script that a user will be made to click on ads by hidden links, like the ones that usually pops up when you click on "claim faucet" etc?

And I've seen faucets/sites which detect if the user is using ad-block and they only permit access to the faucet if the user disables it first and then refreshes the page.

They use children to data mine the users signing up for faucets, to determine the spending habits, which they sell to BIG companies, who then target these consumers with product spamming. ^^Joking^^

They receive income from all the Ad's hosted on the site. I even use some of them, with huge amounts of registered users, to advertize websites I want to promote.

Some of them, even have a "Multiplyer" option, where people gamble some of their own coins or the coins they received from the faucet and they get some of their coins back. ^Grin^

I have a few faucets I still use although the payout is small the captcha is easy and it pays a little each sunday.

I removed ad blocked for those sites just to help support them.

Well, the ads actually do give them quite a lot of money. Especially if the faucets require you to actually click on the banner-ad. This generates far more profits than pure site-visits. If it wasn't profitable, they wouldn't run the faucet :)

Ads and promotion. Maybe also banners and backlinks to other Bitcoin related sites. I think it's only a small profit you can earn with AdSense etc.

They hope that the ads will eventually pay for all the coins they give away for free.

They cannot give large amounts because they depend on the ads for profit (or to even exist).

thanks for your support. if we do not get ad views and clicks then we will all close over time...so support your favorite faucets by clicking an ad after you have been paid.  ;)

Doing this will not only make the site some money but also makes it possible to give bigger prizes.  :o  ;D

Some ad networks (like a-ads) pay based on impressions, not by clicks. So just visiting these sites earns them money.

+ 1000!
A lot of people are complaining about the (small) amount of satoshis they get from faucet.. but don't don't what's needed for those faucets to increase payouts... click the ads..!

I know a lot of faucets with clean ads, no annoying popups or spammy links but just clean and legit ads..so i keep clicking every time i visit faucet.
The payouts would be a lot higher if every faucet user would do the same..

Why don't you use an anti adblock script, and increase the faucet payment accordingly? It should work better than asking your visitors to voluntarily disable their adblock.
