Post by: MrAClem on December 02, 2014, 07:32:21 PM
Using Bitcoin-Qt. Error msg. = Incorrect or no genesis block found. Wrong datadir for network?
All on 128Gb thumb drive. Drive "G".
Directories and files on drive look strange, shortened names with tildys and unknown symbols.
Worked many times. Update every couple weeks.
Not this time
Have jpgs can't attach.

Have you input the right directory path?

Directories and files on drive look strange, shortened names with tildys and unknown symbols.

That could be because of a virus or any malware. I a antivirus scan see what it picks up.

Have jpgs can't attach.

You can just post the links here no need to attach.

There's a similar thread addresing the same error, you might wanna take a look at it might solve it. Here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=780455.0)

On 128 Gb thumb drive.
One day it came up badly corrupted. Had to format to get rid of.
Saved wallet when working earlier.
It was on a cheap Win 8.1 laptop that sucks.
Moved to old (good) Win 7 laptop.

I can not see if I have my money still until the chain is done again.
Moved drive to different computer. Started over at 5 years.
Am at 1 year - 16 weeks.
Now Malwarebytes is blocking incoming to BitcoinQT.
Could BC be corrupt?
I want to keep my wallet local and private, but not keep blockchain local.
Is that possible?
It takes 3-4 hours a day when working.
Is this normal?

Thanks for any advice.

If you want to keep your wallet local but not the blockchain then you have to instal multibit, armory or another small client that is not downloading the blockchain to your computer

Malwarebytes , ha .. I see some threads about Blockchain containing viruses those days , not sure why tho xD
Anyway , if your problem still consist , you may wanna just Switch to a simplier bitcoin wallet like Electrum pretty easy to use .

Not viruses, virus signatures. It's been around for almost a year I think. Best solution is to report a false positive to the programmer of the anti-virus software.

OK, Now after running for 24 days, I got down to 34 weeks behind. Then the computer crashed. Now Bitcoinqt is corrupt again! I can not start over every month. Is there something that will read my wallet so I can retrieve my coins? This has been an incredible hassle. I want to do this, but I need a way that works.

You do not need to synchronize the wallet to get the private keys. Just dump your private keys and import into different wallet(for example, electrum)
1. Open debug window
2. Click console
3. Enter(for each bitcoin address which has positive balance)
Code:
dumpprivkey YourBitcoinAddress
4. Download Electrum https://electrum.org/download.html
5. Run Electrum
6. Create new wallet(backup your seed )
7. Press Wallet -> Private keys -> Import
8. Enter privite keys(the result of the third paragraph of this guide)
9. Profit  ;)

I do not know anything. Where do I find Console? Nothing works because program will not even start now. All went bad before I caught on. Have "wallet.dat". seems to be empty. I guess I'm screwed, huh?
I never got to see wallet after first transaction. I consider myself pretty good with my computer, but this has me baffled.
Thank goodness I did not put much in!

Are you still using the same thumbdrive?

Which version of Bitcoin Core? 0.9.3 was reported buggy sometimes on Windows.

Please, use "command shortcut" like all normal P2P download program when you use a EXTERNAL memory support (not the C: volume).
It's easy :

Code:
T:\Bitcoin\bitcoin-qt.exe -datadir=T:\block-bitcoin

"Bitcoin" folder is the main program
"block-bitcoin" is the renamed original blockchain folder (from bitcoin core) for blocks
T: is the external volume
