I think this is where Bitcoin shines. It's nearly feeless when it comes to huge transactions, but for small ones, you do pay high TX fees.

the address 1JEC8vYP9cEDSu6N6DXkkYd3RaeWAdsCqN,  that provides most of the input to this tx, has itself
recieved many inputs marked as "bitstamp audit" on blockchain.info

So this is most likely bitstamp moving its funds around
or their cold storage being hacked
Including transactions in a block is not the only purpose mining serves so why do you apply all of the costs of mining solely to transactions. I find your statement to be overly simplistic in order to conform to your preconceived notions.

What kind of FUD is this?   Obviously there are coinbase rewards.

Where else can you send such a large amount for just 4 silly cents  :D

Probably work of an exchange, but still, very cool to see.

I think the largest transaction I have seen was 350K BTC, can't remember if they used fee or not.

Transaction amount does not add up any extra cost for mining a block. I think you are scared to lose your bank job... so lamenting in frustration.

Bitstamp audit.

I don't understand why they would need to send an actual transaction in order to conduct an audit. I would think that they would be taking a big risk as if there was some problem with decoding the public address or somehow otherwise sending the funds to an incorrect address.

I think it would be easier to sign a message from the addresses in question

I doubt the people conducting the audit are as knowledgeable as some in this community. They probably come in here to take notes in fact. lol Now i'm wondering who of us is them  :o

That's amazing. The small tx fee problem is best addressed via side chains with fast block confo rates which can be synched with the main blockchain as necessary

Sort of wondered for a minute if these were the Silk Road coins that are about to be auctioned and were being moved to be prepared for the auction in question. And yeah, the transaction fee for that amount is a tad ridiculously low for 200,000 odd coins.

December will be a bad month for the price of bitcoin those looking to adquire coins on a large scale would not want to do so until after the holiday season unless they really wanted to go for a moonride to remember. Whatever is going on we are looking at a huge drop or a huge raise in the price in the coming hours/days good luck all ! My guess is we loose 30% of the value of bitcoin and we have a rollercoaster month were we find ourselves flying through 4 figures in feb

I have a second theory but this is going to sound a little far fetched and crazy, a few days ago talking to somebody on fb ( not an idiot ) he mentioned that there was a huge planned pump and dump for dogecoin planned during the next coming weeks maybe this is the capital that will e used to get the ball rolling. In any case these coins are being watched closely....

Maybe they just wanted to show that big money transactions are really easy with BTC, these days people just think BTC is eligible for doing micropayments(like ChangeTips, CoinBase Tip etc.). Of course it's very risky to transfer a huge amount like this...

I still send mostly 0 fee transaction, since I just move from one wallet to another and don't care if it takes a day to confirm.
Some days ago I moved from my Bitcoin-Qt to my Mycelium-Wallet and it took some hours to confirm.
You can set the minimum fee in the options in Bitcoin-Qt.

Even I do my own 'little' transactions with double checking the receiver adress, there are few ways for hacking transaction coins. Lots of people opened lots of threads about it in last years as we follow; but still we don't know some other tactics and it's not secure to transfer such a big money like this. Also some other friends told the same, it's too risky to keep such a big money in just one wallet.

We should accept that, today bitcoin's two major problem is volatility and security. If we manage to solve these two factors, Bitcoin will achieve its goals faster.

I dont see it as risky to keep all the coins in one wallet if it's strong enough protected in cold storage or whatever , I'm sure anyone with that many Coins knows what they're doing.... Hopefully :)

I think this is where Bitcoin shines. It's nearly feeless when it comes to huge transactions, but for small ones, you do pay high TX fees.

Support the rich and rob the poor. Not one of the finest moments for Bitcoin.

Low fees are for both rich and poor. Nobody gets robbed.
It is not bad, just because we don't exclude the rich from using it. That is really some fucked up logic.

I think this is where Bitcoin shines. It's nearly feeless when it comes to huge transactions, but for small ones, you do pay high TX fees.

Support the rich and rob the poor. Not one of the finest moments for Bitcoin.

What's your problem? Mailing a $5 billion check costs the same in postage as mailing a $5 check.

at least in this case I vote for fees. Let's think about miners1

0.0001BTC is really low compared to paypal, mastercard, visa, banks fees and charges.

Don't you think?

In my opinion fees should just decide how fast a transaction gets processed.

Maybe the just wanted to settle a new record.
I think, the biggest transaction so far was 100,000 BTC, but that was when BTC-price was much lower.

I would bet it is one of the exchanges moving the funds from one address to another. Nothing exciting about this.
That doesn't matter.
What matters is how much this transaction costed. Try moving $80M dollars and see how much that would cost (outside of the Bitcoin system).

outside the bitcoin system is something that just multinationals, governments and so forth can do.

That's really unbelievable.

But, in a way, it just represents our monetary system: in the end those are numbers on a pc!

That was a couple of years ago so it wasn't worth so much, this was quite large.

Strange because i picked this up 8 days after the OP
https://blockchain.info/tx/9d25b5eaa65de602fe6a11ba9db83f3b1105899b12664f3302a5ccf1cff955d8
Chech the dates and addreses on both the transactions.
Is this some sort of market manipulation going on?

So, they sent 5000 BTC somewhere else. How is that market manipulation?
That seems like a nice little address, they use for big transactions

There can't be so many people/group's with  around half a million coins

It is probably some company/entity that holds/owns bitcoin on behalf of others (like an exchange). It was/is actually rumored that the transaction had something to do with an audit of bitstamp
