Title: I made a Bitcoin Vs. MasterCard Graphic
Post by: ThrowAway1d52e8d on December 03, 2014, 05:43:22 PM
I made a graphic to refute mastercard's recent statements about bitcoin:

https://i.imgur.com/PdfpxEV.jpg (https://i.imgur.com/PdfpxEV.jpg)

https://i.imgur.com/PdfpxEV.jpg

Details on Mastercard's Statement:

http://www.coindesk.com/mastercard-seeks-level-playing-field-bitcoin-regulation/ (http://www.coindesk.com/mastercard-seeks-level-playing-field-bitcoin-regulation/)

I think the graphic does a good job of refuting the statement and should help to correct some of misconceptions about bitcoin.

Use, modify, distribute as you will. Thanks!

What's that Mastercard? You don't like people slandering your name?

In that case... here you go:

Edited so that Seizure is spelled right.

Good point, added to the original post. Also, I posted this in /r/bitcoin too and someone freaked out about the inflation thing. I know that there is currently inflation. I meant long term, but whatever. I took that out.

I have done a bad thing Seizure was misspelled >:( The original post has been updated. Please use the new image. I don't want the misspelling to reflect poorly on the community.

Mastercard does not actually have any kind of store of value. Using a mastercard credit card will only make it so you end up owing money and cannot actually store any assets with mastercard

Nice work. Mastercard and visa etc. are ways to extract rather than store value.

Lower fee and distributed control are a little misleading for bitcoin.

I'm going to be a grammar nazi for this post.

Please either change "Get your facts straight" to a different font or colour, or put a fullstop after "straight".

I rest my case.

I think the middle section should be a mixture of the outside section colors.  I know the middle words are supposed to represent both sides, but the stripes could confuse some people and make them think the words in the middle apply to one side or the other instead of both sides.  For instance, toward the top, illegal goods is on the bitcoin color and legal goods is on the mastercard color.  Anyone truly confused by this might read the rest of the list based on colors and just think it's stupid and wrong instead of realizing that they apply to both sides.

The statement "Store of value" should belong to bitcoin. Just to be fair towards this community. Btc price though has been decreasing but I can see that 300 usd seems to be the bottom support. Just bought my small stash at 350 so I expect to go up in years to come :)

Nice graphic ;)

Think it might be best change some of the middle section like The00Dustin suggested because at the moment it kind of looks like Bitcoin finances terrorism, enables buying illegal goods etc

Charge back is a good thing if it is used to protect consumers. However, it is used in fraud some times.

Agree, the no chargeback-thingy isn't exactly something that makes bitcoin superior ,it actually makes it less attractive.

Why would anyone want to factor in unimportant stuff like say merchant adoption, regulatory acceptance or risk of loosing your funds. If i did not know about bitcoin and i would see this, i would have the instant feeling you are trying to rip me off.

Since this looks like a group effort...

"Please get your facts straight" comes across as being too much in-my-face. May I suggest simply...

Get the Facts Straight

...sans the 'Please' as in I'm/We're begging you!

Ooch! I know it's just a list of terms that both have in common (center of Venn diagram), but having Illegal Goods in the shaded yellow part oppose to the reddish shade doesn't bode well, I believe. Again, may I suggest adjusting said list a tad so that Illegal Goods is in the shaded reddish section, albeit a challenge due to the word/term lengths and adhering to font size.

BTW, nice job and can't wait to see the finished product vectorized.

Great work, we should tweet this to MasterCard   :D

But they probably will sue us for doing so, they are quite harsh on people who use their logo.

Let them face up to the truth.  ;D

Never get into a suing match with large corporations.
They have deep pockets.
Even if you speak the truth, the process can break you.
