I'm doing my part. Bought over a dozen small paper wallet gifts already.

When I went down to Decentral on Thursday to buy the low, they were pimping spiffy new plastic Xmas BTC gift cards in $50 denominations with scratch-away private keys.

I'll stick with paper though. They fit nicely in Xmas cards. Also, the plastic ones are marked with their fiat value at time of purchase. Tacky.

I would think there would be a selloff rather than buying. People need fiat for all those gifts.

Yeah most likely people will sell for fiat to buy presents, then there will be a rebound from smart people getting in on the dip.

If there is any surge in price that will be due to the new year comming closer and closer.

Yeah most likely people will sell for fiat to buy presents, then there will be a rebound from smart people getting in on the dip.

Instead of selling for fiat, I hope people will use their coins to spend them where possible.

There are great sites where you can buy tech and non tech related goods with Bitcoin.

Unfortunately those are extremely rare. Yes, there are hundreds, but we are talking global economy here, so yea, extremely rare.
Plus most merchants apply higher prices for bitcoin than for any other payment method. Kinda ruins the whole point of low fees n stuff..

This makes sense but btc always surprises with unpredictability.

Logically, we should expect the price to drop more and remain down till Feb. March. Once the holiday bills are paid people will, hopefully, start reinvesting.

Do people not realize that 99.9999% of the market is controlled by people who don't need to cashout their bitcoins in order to buy Christmas gifts?

::) What a wonderful Christmas present... a digital currency for nerds that has been steadily declining in value for over a year.  ::)

Once the person you give it to stops laughing, and realizes you're serious, they'll politely thank you, before throwing it in the trash while you're not looking.

No way!  Money that can't be spent is the most romantic present evar!  Besides, he can just tell her he got her 10 BTC without actually doing it, she won't know the difference.
Just tell her "It's all very scientific and complicated, I'll take care of it honey.  Why don't you go make me a sammich?"

Apparently not.
