Title: Withdrawal Concerns at Poloniex
Post by: tokeweed on December 11, 2014, 04:49:26 AM
Just a heads up.  Tried withdrawing BTC from Poloniex 2 days, then hours ago but can't.  Sent a support ticket and all replies are that they are 'fixing the problem', but the problem keeps coming back and people can't withdraw.

Poloniex users, please be on the look out.  Non-users, stay away for now until the problem is 100% fixed.

I wish i never made a BTC deposit and did more research about Poloniex.  I wasn't aware that it was hacked last March 2014:  http://www.coindesk.com/poloniex-loses-12-3-bitcoins-latest-bitcoin-exchange-hack/

Quote

Poloniex Loses 12.3% of its Bitcoins in Latest Bitcoin Exchange Hack

Digital currency exchange Poloniex, which trades bitcoin and other popular digital currencies such as litecoin, namecoin and dogecoin, has lost 12.3% of its total bitcoin supply in an attack.

The exchange took to Bitcoin Forum on 4th March to report it had been compromised by a previously unknown vulnerability in its coding.

Writing under the username Busoni, Poloniex owner Tristan D'Agosta, moved to calm concerned users by explaining what lead to the hack, as well as what the next steps from the company would be.

Due to its current bitcoin shortage, Poloniex indicated that all customer balances would temporarily be reduced by 12.3% "out of absolute necessity". D'Agosta suggested that this was the only way that bitcoins could be distributed fairly among affected users.

I have traded there a lot. I have never had a problem. I will look into this and report back.

tokeweed you should also know that poloniex paid back all the users that lost BTC in the hack, they are on the up and up. occasionally they do have problems but they always fix them fast as far as i have noticed.

The chatbox over at Poleniex seems pretty sublime so .... I don't know .... Notices show they had wallets down but are all back up as of 12-9-2014.

If its a systemic problem it will show up quick but I see no evidence of it yet.

Poleniex has never taken a dime from me ...

Chatbox characters there are a little hostile ..... and lots of movement with trading bots ...

but ... still seems like honest business going on ....

Another one bites the dust.

Another what? !

Reasonable fears of a Poloniex customer that have been allayed by the community
or
Exchange?

I, myself never had a problem with Poloniex and wouldbe happy to use them in the future. Having said that I am not a whale so I never deposit more than 1BTC anyway.

I wouldn't worry at all about Poloniex. They are the most trustworthy exchange in my opinion and I don't think there's much competition for that title.

Just submit a ticket or go on IRC and get some assistance. They always come through. They even fully paid back people from when the security issue back earlier this year. How often have you seen that happen? Most of the time in this space people just disappear.

Another +vote for Poloniex.  They're some of the few honest people in the business here.

Poloniex? YUCK!! Don't you have to constantly refresh the page just to see all the latest chart movements?

Poloniex don't have 3 Stooges running their Exchange site unlike Bittrex.

Why do you care who runs the exchange? Bittrex is solid I've never had any funds go missing or anything like that. Super fast withdrawal super responsive interface. i could go on

No. Maybe you're thinking of another site?

Apparently some BTC deposits have gone missing at Poloniex as they are doing a wallet rescan.

I have actually had nothing but positive experiences with Poloniex.  The one subpar experience came from a Mod who didn't know the dev side of things...so I had to wait longer than I would have liked while he asked.  Really, that's not a bad experience...; )

If I'm not mistaken, they got hacked at the beginning of the year and while it took some time, they repaid everything that they could verify...I even kind of like their troll box at times...

I like polo more.

1. lower trading fee compared to bittrex
2. trollbox and good community
3. you can find admin in the trollbox if you need support.
4. I made money from polo coins(cinni, monero, storj), but lost huge money from bittrex coins.(voot, via) ;)
5. website loading&trading speed is much faster than bittrex.
6. less scam coins in top trading coins(XRP, STORJ, XMR, CLAM are legit and great coins), but you may buy shit/scam in bittrex top trading coins.

HAHA! same. lost some btc in VIA, made some in STORJ.

also would like to say i got some BTC out, and all is fine.  they do have some issues with STR tho, but i think it's because stellar doesn't allow anyone else but the stellar foundation itself to run a stellard due to some problems encountered a couple of weeks ago.  i wonder if other exchanges are going thru the same thing.

Poloniex is one of my trusted crypto exchange.
Yes, they was hacked but they pay all losses back.

I'm not sure are they legal company or not, but they have very good reputation in crypto community.

Could you point me to their IRC ? I could only find one where no posting is allowed.
As for tickets... I really wish you never need to use one. It's been longer than 2 days and no response. Actually, reading some posts, seems that people are waiting weeks or months... That brings the question what good is it to have you problem fixed after moths ? Those funds might be needed a lot sooner than that.

I would really like to believe that and I hope you're right. However, facts are pointing to a different direction.
When I did a large ZEC withdrawal from Polo to my wallet, it got through, all good, except one thing: the transaction ID is fake - can't be found on the ZEC blockchain...  What is even more suspicious is that a previous transaction I did before (on a very small amount) - went through ok, was on the blockchain and I got the ZEC.
Now, I can understand a lot of things can and do go wrong, busy networks, servers, emails, few resources to take care  of things, errors, bugs etc. However it's really hard to explain how on earth do they generate a fake transaction ID ?!! Specially when 20 min before all worked OK...

Needless to say, the raised support ticket is still unanswered. But hey, it's still early - only 2 days. And who needs the money ?  :-)   😂😂😂

I've been waiting nearly 2 months for a response to my support ticket.
