No split key vanity generation? Insecure as fuck.

Exactly this! I don't think anybody will feel safe doing this.
The only way to trust the user to create a secure vanity address is by using split keys.

Consider this a "beta" version for us to mess around with this. We are working on split key generation, but it isn't easy. For the time-being users can try out our service until our next update comes. We decided to add in free keys as a "trial" for the longer vanity address generations.

You should not be charging anyone for any length before you switch entirely to split key, or giving anyone vanity addresses you have the full private keys to without a massive warning that no BTC should ever be sent to those addresses.

Aha yes it isn't very easy for us to code properly just yet. This is our new goal, and we are working towards it as of the hour we released this version.

Please stay updated, the new update is on it's way.

Then why in the name of all that is holy would ANYONE want to pay/use an insecure product from a developer that just said  "it isn't very easy for us to code properly just yet" ?

Sorry for any inconvenience. It's not that we rushed the site, it's just a side project that we work on time-to-time. As I explained earlier, consider this a "beta" version, very simple in features. The bitcoin community is lacking a decent, trusted split-key generator for those who would like such a service. Our aim and goal is to provide our services in the best way we can.

We can code haha, most of us have been doing it for multiple years. We are just working towards a split-key generator, and that isn't too easy.

If any coders are available and willing to help out a little with this using their previous knowledge, bounty is available.

No inconvenience, I take it English may not be your first language. The choice of wording would give pause however.

Vanitygen has split key generation built in and has for years.

I consider this discussion a huge red-flag.  You should never let a third party generate private keys for you.

Searching into this a little less shallower once the morning comes. Expect split-key integrated more sooner than I described, as the code I thought it would take is much less.

The criticism and opinions really help! Now the next question is, keep it easy for users and keep the option for generation without split-key? Or make the whole project split-key based? All posts related are appreciated, it gives us a feel of what you think of it, and what we can improve. We realize trust is a big factor, and coming in with a Newbie account isn't great for that, huh.

OP should mentiom that this process is full of insecurity and the owner of the site can very easily access the funds sent to your vanity address.

The website looks pretty... unprofessional. Split-key generation is also readily available/usable and requires little to no coding.


You should make the whole project split-key based. No profit or bitcoins for you to steal but you would have honor and a clean conscience.

This pretty well sums it up. Just clone vanitygen and make your own keys offline. Then you can sleep especially well knowing you took the proper steps to keep your funds safe.

It can be done after some time, now the most important is to make split-key generation. You can do it in the same way you generate the address using the prefix. :)

Please do not use this service until it provides split key generation.

People will still use it to conserve their electricity fee or due to lack of computer power. I have seen people using bitcoinvanitygen.com without split-key generation. :-\
