Title: Why is CryptoXChange so slow? Or is it just me?
Post by: DeathAndTaxes on June 22, 2012, 03:12:33 PM
I mean 30 to 60 seconds per page slow.

I remember them being slow when I last used them 6 months ago it seems nothing has changed.

Same for me. I think they moved their servers out of AU, which is why it was slow for me previously, but if that's the case it didn't help much. If they are still hosted in AU, well then blame the shitty submarine links.

Network speed usually doesn't affect web server speediness as much as coding quality

The IP is still located in Blacktown, New South Wales, Australia (afaik).

I'm aware of two changes going on at CryptoXChange that may or may not be a cause:

1. Their launch of MrBitcoins
2. Fixing the Order Matching Engine ( I notified them of a serious design flaw (bad code/bug) which they supposedly are fixing since last week. )

CryptoXChange hasn't been very active on these forums lately.

Sure, but it seems uncannily common that AU sites are slow for me. Even Ozcoin was 300-400+ ms latency and really slow loading when it was in AU, but now it's a bit better. I think it's in Texas now, unless that has changed since I last looked.
As far as I know, there is only one submarine cable that goes direct from LA to Sydney, all the rest route through Japan and NZ and some random islands down there.

Site is awkwardly slow but I like doing trades there, I wish there was a non-flashy basic version though.

+1.  Hell I would take a ssh login and command line. :)

Wow, what an interesting thought. A curses based ticker/orderbook integrated with some kind of command-line trading client.

I wonder if someone could create a frontend/proxy to do that. Sadly, it would probably be used only by a dozen or so hardcore nerds around the world. ;D
