I have cash in hand now (well, in my checking account anyway). I do have PayPal, but from what I've read using it for anything Bitcoin related is a big no-no.

It would be very tough for somebody to accept your PayPal unless he/she really trust you. If you have cash in hand I would say the quickest way to get your coins are: 1. Meet somebody in person (localbitoins, mycelium trader, etc...) 2. Use a remittances service and buy from somebody you can trust (WU, MG, etc...) For that amount I would recommend you use an escrow. Look into Coinbase.com or Circle.com and use your bank account to buy for 1% fee. It takes about a week but if you're in no rush to acquire the BTC then its your cheapest option. The easiest is to buy by bank transfer , but will need 1 week to get your bitcoin in you walet. If you're going to transfer money through the bank better use cryptsy. So far they are honest compared to other exchanges that got "hacked".
