Hi ,

I have reported few times this user  : b00s624 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=85739) but he has never been banned, why ?

Check his latest posts : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=85739;sa=showPosts

I'm sorry for this thread , but I think it was necessary.

+1 for this. Almost all of his posts contain only one line maybe much lesser than that. The only problem is his posts can neither be counted as spams nor quality posts, somewhat between both.

Just want to know, is there any feature to report an account or are you reporting the account by reporting his posts?

if someone posts small sentences doesn't mean they aren't to the point and not contributng to the conversation...although those posts dont meet that critera.

I reported some his posts   with the function "Report to moderator" .

I don't know , I've seen some users that were banned and their latest posts are more constructive than his.

Looks like he is just trying to rank up by making such small posts but is there any rule for banning such users?

As much as I wouldnt mind that account being banned (along with 329392 others), its not a solution.

The real problem is that people are getting paid for signature campaigns. As long as that is allowed, we will be flooded by nonsensical spammy posts from a bazillion alt accounts, contributing nothing to the forum and burying worthwhile post under a pile of garbage,  both to boost their post count and to increase their (per post) sig campaign payouts.

Your arguenrny is invalid in both this case and in others. In this case it is invalid because he is paid a fixed rate if he makes no posts or 1,000 posts.

In other cases your arguement is invalid because campaign operators have an incentive to stop spam because spam with their campaign is not effective advertising.

The op is probably right. I saw (and stopped at) 4 pages of nothing then one liners of useless posts

It is not a problem of the signature campaign *at least in this case*.

Thanks.

I read this on bitmixer campaign page: We pay 0.001*Activity/50 BTC weekly (max. 0.01 BTC).

So yeah, it does make a difference if he posts nothing or 1000 posts, it influences his activity lvl.

Nonsense. How many sig campaign  base their payout on the trust of the poster or the quality of his contributions,  rather than post count (activity/seniority) ?
There is no incentive for signature beggars to contribute meaningfully, at most they must prevent getting banned.

Sometimes users escape the net, I try and report them wherever I can but the mods are pretty busy on this forum but they might notice now you've made this thread, you could maybe PM them as well, despite having a signature campaign I always do my best not to spam like that and just post shitty one liners, you could also report him to the actual sig campaign as well and get him banned from that so he has no incentive any campaign that's worth it won't want to have their reputation ruined by some asshole trying to spam on their behalf.

Posts contribute to activity as much as a single post per day unless the activity was otherwise held back due to few posts in a given period of the past (which is rare). Thus your argument is mostly invalid, because a single post a day is hardly spam. It might be of low qualitiy anyway, but thats not the discussion here.

I'd at least report it to the sig campaign to cut them off and provide his post history as evidence, not really worth it spamming the moderators if they're busy because they might get annoyed.

If the campaign cares he most likely will be, they often have rules against spam to help keep the forums clean.

The poster being discussed here post ~1 post per day (unless badbear has been deleting).
1 post per day x non trivial % of 386829 posters =  forum full of nonsense.

And thats not even discussing referral links.

Referal spam is again the rules anyway and will be deleted/removed from the post. The person in question had at least 23 posts today when I checked earlier. I am glad that badbear deleted them because this will also result in no or almost no payment.
Again: the quality of the posts is still low, but a low quality post every few days is fine, at least for me and the staff seems to agree. Its problematic (IMHO) when the majority of posts are of low quality and the person in question posts a lot. 30 one-liners over 60 days hardly matter, 80 posts within 24 hours do.

-snip-
If the campaign cares he most likely will be, they often have rules against spam to help keep the forums clean.

They usually have rules in place, but I feel they are not strict enough more often than not.

It is allowed to put referrals in your signature. How do you maximize the odds of someone clicking your ref link? Post as many posts as you can get away with.

Rules only help so much as long as the incentives are all wrong. Rules, even if enforceable and enforced will just be bent, skirted or broken.
Fact is the campaign organizer wants to maximize ad impressions, therefore spam is not his problem, its his friend. And campaign members only care about maximizing their profit with minimal effort.

Posting silly gifs,  5 word posts and completely meaningless stupid posts by people who do not care or know anything  about the topics being discussed, is the predictable result.

People with vested interests in this spam may say what they want, Im pretty sure I know why so many old and interesting posters like DeathAndTaxes and JoelKatz cant be bothered with this forum anymore.

I actually feel I have to post better quality most of the time I advertise for someone. I think longer before I post and I sometimes dont even post a lenthy one I allready wrote. I agree that there are others out there and I dont want to say that everyone should feel the same. I actually think I should not care about the signature and post like I would without it.
If someone running a campaign actually thinks spam is their friend, they have understood nothing about advertising. Its easy to get an army of idiots posting bullshit noone cares about. Its hard work to root these idiots out and only keep worthy posters. The overal quality of posts for a certain campaign says a lot of their quality of service. If they do not care enough about their image, why should they care about their customers? Advertisement is long beyond the same old "be in their heads".
Stunna got that a while back when he first restructured and later (effectivly)[1] canceled the PrimeDice campaign. I think it could have been done earlier, but thats easy to say in hindsight. You shouldnt wait for the "DannyHamilton is ignoring PD signature wearers by default" warning signs.

Posting silly gifs,  5 word posts and completely meaningless stupid posts by people who do not care or know anything  about the topics being discussed, is the predictable result.

Yes, get booted out of the campaign and possible banned for spam and sometimes even made look silly. If someone is posting bullshit, reply and show those who do now know any better that its bullshit.

People with vested interests in this spam may say what they want, Im pretty sure I know why so many old and interesting posters like DeathAndTaxes and JoelKatz cant be bothered with this forum anymore.

First of all do you have anything that can back your claim for the reason they left?
JoelKatz was last active yesterday [2] and DeathAndTaxes [3] has a signature in the fashion a campaign would. I suspect you just pull reputable people out of your behind to back your argument.

Dont judge a post by its signature. Its a nice way for people without much money to get some coins, to learn about bitcoin without investing to much without begging for them. There should - probably - be more pressure on those running the campaign. I dont know how with the given set of rules, besides continue to report those that spam. Mabye if 5 of your campaigners get banned you also get banned?

Yes there will be those that try to bent the rules but frankly: there will allways, no matter which rules. Its your job as the person in charge to detect that. Talk to borderline cases, tell them you dont like what you see and if they cant improve, its their last turn. Keep turns short and max posts per turn low. The campaigns adapt. A year ago anyone with the needed rank could have earned 2.4 BTC from Stunna in a month. No (or unreachable high) limit campaigns are dead. Why is that if the incentive is all wrong? Why is that if those running the campaigns could care less if their campaigners get banned? Its because spam is not your friend, never.

[1] AFAIK hilariousandco and mprep are still running for Stunna.

Then you havent done the cost/benefit analysis.

Chances of that happening are what, 1%? Again do the cost/benefit analysis then imagine having dozens of accounts.

DnT's signature is his own company duh.
JoelKatz has posted less than once a week  prior to selling some hardware.

No, its a "nice" way to render this forum useless. I would much rather have they begged.

No, because I do not understand my posting here as work. Id post as much anyway. I could just work 3 hours more each day instead and earn way more money, at minimum wage. Thus anyone thats actually doing a cost/benefit analysis and comes to the conclusion: "Ill game the signature campaign for the money"... well how do I put that nicely? I guess I cant: its just plain stupid.

... I see you do the "pull percentages out of my behind" now. Badbear confirmed a ban right here. What makes you think its the only case out of 100?
In your opinion/experience the chances are slim. In my experience I just report them. I wont start to pull numbers from anywhere as I dont keep track of how many posts I report for spam (~1800 total currently, but they are not all related to spam) and how many result in bans. I feel the staff does a very good job with this, those running the campaigns do less, but they start to act. Just see the response time in this thread. OP is from 13.12.2014 - 1233, badbears response from 1414 the same day.

So? He is advertising, he will earn money off of it and probably way more than anyone running for a signature campaign. You claim he left because of spam caused by signature campaigns. I ask: can you confirm that in any way.

JoelKatz has posted less than once a week  prior to selling some hardware.

Again: what makes you think the reason behind the absense is spam cause by signature campaigns. People leave for all kinds of reasons, I wonder why you can speak for them.

I think this discussion leads nowhere. Lets just agree to disagree. If you want to do something against spam, report it via the report link or create posts like these.

Meh, why is your accuracy important for you if you dont report?

A++ paid sig, one-liners, shows interest in bought accounts, member ranks and unrestricted number of posts would report again.

On the other hand the person is probably limited by the ability to express themself in english. I doubt its on purpose, its more likely that this is just the way the person posts, with or without paid signature. This is the post [1] they joined a campaign.

I'd at least report it to the sig campaign to cut them off and provide his post history as evidence, not really worth it spamming the moderators if they're busy because they might get annoyed.

I really can't help but think this may be a partial solution to sig campaign related useless posts.  Most signature sponsors are becoming a lot more discriminating in who posts for them and what counts.

There is still an issue with people spamming with new accounts to get their level up, but reporting to a sig sponsor could also be very effective.

So even if you don't want to report to the mods, report to their sig sponsor.

This may help with spam over the long term - people will not spam if the are getting kicked out of campaigns. However I don't think it will stop a particular person from spamming the first time, as it will generally take several weeks for a operator to withhold payment to a spammer and kick them out of the campaign (it will take at least as long as the next time they are due to payout)

Is there any way to find out if a user is currently banned?

The modlog only contains list of users banned recently (maybe during the last 24 hours?)

I reported this user when he made 70+ (mainly spam) posts within a few hours.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=353244

A few of his obvious spam posts (repeated bumps to self promoted thread) were deleted, but a majority remain. However, he has not made any posts during the last week. Is there any way to confirm if he was banned?

I think there is only this log :

Also bans by admins don't always show up in the modlog, depends on how they were banned. I don't think that's intentional though.

Nuke user: N/A in topic #0 by member #402358
This user registered on this forum on 12-Dec-14. Assuming he was nuked immediately afterwards, I am able to see entries for maximum 7 days.

Are there additional pages which I am missing?

Weird, it used to be 2 weeks.

IIRC there is also a limit to the number of entries shown, not sure if theymos said that or I imagined it though.

All I could find with a quick search was that the listed bans are apparently permabans.

All bans listed on that page are permanent.

Yeah temp bans won't show up there. Some permabans won't either if they were applied the same way as temp bans. Not common but I do sometimes. Sometimes a temp ban will be converted to permanent which will result in that behavior, also may be done that way if I want to put a reason (either for myself/others, or for the user), etc.

Pardon this question so late in the day - but the only way to report a user is to report specific posts to the moderator, correct?

For example - this (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=374921) user has made 49 spammy posts in around 51 minutes (is that a record?). If I do report one or two of his posts, would moderators just delete those posts (if they agree that it is spam) or would they look at his posts and evaluate whether to ban him?

Report only one or two posts (the most spammy ones), but note in your report that all of the user's posts are bad.

Thanks.

If posts are done for the sole purpose of getting to the ad post quota, should I report it?

This user https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=177007
needs 50 posts by Dec 30th. He has been almost silent since he posted a lot before the last month deadline, and has started again with 22 posts today.

He has also started thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=906942.0
I believe he knows the answer to the question posed there, since he is marcotheminer (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=883261.0)

This user (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=59502) also belonging to him and has the ad deadline on 3rd Jan, so expect him to get activated soon too.

Question is, is this allowed? The posts are quite innocent and can't be considered spam directly.

Depends on the quality really. Doing 50 or 1000 posts in a day wouldn't be a problem if they were all constructive, but 50 rushed half-assed ones would be. What is or isn't spam is subjective and it depends on the mod who handles the report so you could get a bad one, but you could PM a staff member or BadBear if you're concerned and don't want to risk your accuracy. Up to you.

Is the accuracy statistic updated? I read somewhere it was frozen, but I'm not really sure.

If you have a lot of reports, each additional report is going to have a less of an impact on your accuracy rating.

For example if you have reported 10 reports and 9 of them were accurate your accuracy would be 90% and each one would count for 10%. However if you later reported an additional 90 posts, you would have then reported 100 posts and each post would count as 1% of your total accuracy rating

Its perfectly fine, its just that the percentage will only change if the report got handled so you might not see this immediately. The other thing that people tend to forget is that the higher your number of reports the less the percentage will change.

I understand that, the reason I wasn't quite sure is because I'm still at 100%. I would have thought I would have gotten at least one wrong by now, but I guess not.

Some of your reports are marked as neither good nor bad, for example if the report is handled via PM, or the user is given a warning these are not counted as part of your accuracy rating

In cases like this, the reports should, and usually are marked as handled and do count, though it isn't done automatically.

How can they be not marked as either good or bad (or are you just talking about ones that are 'ignored' by everyone and they then just stay in the que indefinitely (or until someone finally handles them?))?

Yes, the ones that haven't been handled (yet). Sometimes they get lost in a flood of altcoin reports, or foreign language reports, or something else similar.

Depends. While it looks okay on the surface, that sort of pattern can be indicative of either account farming, or someone using multiple accounts for sig ad purposes. Neither one of those is disallowed, but more often than not, as the number of accounts go up, the quality of posting drops, so it's something worth looking into. Report system isn't really ideal for that though, I don't check it that often, I leave it to the moderators generally so I can focus on things moderators can't do. You can pm me with those sorts of reports, I will look into it.

Just look at they messages. Latest CHAPAY posts (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=395136;sa=showPosts), Latest BTC Stalker posts (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=394953;sa=showPosts)

They even leave messages in the same subject is always a difference of almost the same time.
Also they have a twitter accounts for BTC twitter campaigns:
https://twitter.com/bitcoin_chapay
https://twitter.com/Bitcoin_stalker

Both without a real twits (only retwits).

Sometimes they write in the same russian topics are very simple message.

Well if he hasn't he probably will be. Just noticed he necroed a thread and copy and pasted a response that has a few hits on google:

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=You+can+buy+bitcoins+from+either+exchanges,+or+directly+from+other+people+selling+them.+You+can+pay+for+them+in+a+variety+of+ways,+ranging+from+hard+cash+to+credit/debit+cards+to+wire+transfers,+or+even+with+other+cryptocurrencies,+depending+on+who+you+are+buying+them+from+and+where+you+live.+It%27s+still+not+easy+to+buy+bitcoins+with+your+credit+card+or+PayPal.+&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr&ei=Xsj9VOHcGM2R7AaqooCADg

You can buy bitcoins from either exchanges, or directly from other people selling them. You can pay for them in a variety of ways, ranging from hard cash to credit/debit cards to wire transfers, or even with other cryptocurrencies, depending on who you are buying them from and where you live. It's still not easy to buy bitcoins with your credit card or PayPal. This is because such transactions can easily be reversed with a phone call to the card company. Since it's hard to prove any goods changed hands in a transfer of bitcoins, exchanges avoid this payment method and so do most private sellers.  :) :)BTC Good luck in the bitcoin world.

He has posted the address 1CD6fzRYoz4mErnZKwGPV3oozVJZKpvLrC quite a few times, including here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=291387.msg3531927#msg3531927) and here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=717300.msg8105703#msg8105703). There is a payment made by Stunna to this address, indicating that it was indeed used to receive payments for a signature campaign.

This address seems to be spend-linked to Monbux's tipping address 1Q2CupiU5DfWupRGBQ66QYRqvxoNxGZCcn
https://blockchain.info/tx/842f373600bbfb57fce4e7649668d76034ff6c6536d29c531126f9f6936a4553

Was it an account sold by Monbux?

This is very strange, I have find these other posts that confirm your affirmation :

Post Count (including this one): 5604
Address (from BIT-X.com, starts with a 3): Don't have one and can't sign up for some reason, will post my personal address for now: 1Q2CupiU5DfWupRGBQ66QYRqvxoNxGZCcn

That address is Monbux's personal address as mentioned in the above quote. He uses it for receiving loan repayment. So there is a chance for that.

I know specgamer real life as a person, pretty sure I mentioned that somewhere.  I'm also pretty sure that person gave it to another friend of his, or another stranger though.  He didnt specify.  I don't remember any transactions that happened, was this a while ago?  My personal address was postly publicly for many months, it is also used yo receive tips, loan repayments, and stuff In general.

Is it really that hard to put some hero/legendary's to the task of clearing these rubbish posts?
I wouldn't mind clearing up some dirt every now and again, I respect that Mods have lots of things to do but why not let the community help (or at least the more respected users)

I can't see why that wouldn't work...

Yup, this transaction happened a long time ago (in 2013).
The transaction mentioned above has your personal address as an input, not as an output.

What does that mean, exactly?  Could it be my old address?  I have a lot of address, I'll try to look?  But I do know that I am currently not affiliated with the account, specgamer.  I'll ask my friend and get back if needed, pretty sure he doesn't have the account anymore.  I just checked and it had been pretty inactive until recently...  Honestly that might be my address but I doubt it, I usually just use the 1Q, from my blockchain.

Is this because of signature spamming, or because of scamming of users?

Can you stop to make these type of question only for try to boost your post count? However , the scammers will never be banned fr the forum, the spammers yes (it is strange, but this is how the forum works).

Ps: the next time read at least 1-2 pages, before reply to a thread. Thankd for the attention.

Yep, seems like a bot for signature campaign. Or it is simple someone very productive like as the main character from the movie "Lucie"  8)

Too many people do spam on here for the sake of signature campaigns but a lot is being done to prevent this from happening and to be honest I have about 50+ users or more who have spammed their way up maybe submit it over the coming week or so or at the weekend as most posts within them are 1 liner posts or have maybe 10 to 15 words in max or even worse maybe 5 to 8 words tops over 50 to 100 or more posts like some of the ones that people have listed in here.

Would this be considered spam? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=193142;sa=showPosts - Almost all one liners in the scam accusations section. Even quotes himself here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=846266.msg10827803#msg10827803 , probably forgot which account he logged into or is randomly quoting. Posts are usually made within a short period of time.

Looks like he's spamming the activity up to most likely sell the account. Only brining this up because that account is always bumping older scam accusations with one liners and I've seen others with sigs get banned for less.

It's look like a bot replying. How about making a new rule for prevent bot replies ...?
Example : filled the captcha before reply or posting

That wouldn't do much either. There are captcha solver which fetch captcha and give to a human to solve.

He 'will not' be considered spammer because he is not wearing a sig ad (signature advertise).
Like me and you, have you seen the user Muhammed Zakir and his style of 'posting' , He deframment the quoted post and replies to each sentence only for create an illusion of a long reply.

That is not true. Users will get banned for spam with or without paid signature.

Sometimes its easier to reply to certain aspects of a post individually. From what I see MZ posting he is very helpful even if the posts sometimes are short. Im however biased and BadBear might see this differently.

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this, but I didn't want to create a new thread only because of it - earlier today, I reported what to me is a double/spam post made by rockBTC in the Signature Campaign Overview thread, but it seems the report was refused. The post I reported was the following: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=615953.msg10826463#msg10826463 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=615953.msg10826463#msg10826463); which seems to me to be a duplicate of a previous post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=615953.msg10808133#msg10808133 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=615953.msg10808133#msg10808133).

Now, I understand the second post was made over a day and a half after the first, but considering there is only one post in-between them both (so, the first post isn't buried or in any way hidden), the post made by ndnhc hasn't been acknowledged or acted on by Mitchełł (so, the first post wasn't forgotten), and the second post doesn't really add anything new, I think this is clearly spam - am I being too harsh? :)

Isn't against the forum rules to post in that way? I would like to see all the users do as Muhammed Zakir and after read an opinion of a mod.
Another thing:is against the forum rules to post short reply (when it is necessary)? Is not this a forum ?

No there is no rule against this posting style. There was something called a quote pyramid, but even that is not against the rules.

I would like to see all the users do as Muhammed Zakir and after read an opinion of a mod.

Spam is against the rules, short replies can be helpful and thus are not.

Maybe you have better chance to use the Report the Moderator link or to PM BabBear or Theymos.  ;)
You may also avoid the risk of an Off-topic post.

He is not a spammer to me, he is just a active poster, And don't think you can report someone optionally and get him or her banned just because you don't like him or her.
