It would be totally counter productive, most of the successful scam are created by people who have enough fund to pay a fee to bct
(see BitBay or others...)
On an other hand, the project which are legit with real developers usually don't have the resource nor a scammy p&d group to help them.
So if you want to see only scam coin, this is the way to go...

Just check the post above mine, that guy is right, they are not born on bct, they only have annoucment thread here also.
They can just create other forum and it will become popular for altcoin users/traders.

They can be allowed to make new coins, but should go trough a filter first imo before being allowed to announce it and not like how it is now where 1 scammy ass person creates a new account for every new coin he wants to trick people with to continue to rob people. Bct is to a degree accountable for the scams happening. It's a like a nightclub with no bouncers.

What about simply removing the whole altcoin section? That way, people will not be allowed to announce or discuss anything related to altcoin on bitcointalk. :)

Orrrrrrrr before people throw money into a coin, they could actually read and see if its stupid and non innovative or worth evaluating further as a possible candidate for investment. There is no such thing as a scam coin (with the exception of viruses which are banned here). If the dev is incompetent, or the coin is nothing special and doesn't have a future, DONT BUY IT! [sarcasm on/]We should also disallow threads having to do with Bitcoins because people could potentially lose their money with it. [/sarcasm of]

Take a bit of self responsibility, and invest smarter. If you have some primal urge to waste your money you could invest in my happiness and send all of your coins to me  ;D

I'll do one better, if you invest in me, I'll even send you a pm saying thank you. That's more than you will get with a sinking coin!

I was under the impression that all altcoins were scams.

I do think that charging to create a [ann] thread in the altcoin section would be a good way to raise revenue. It would probably also weed out a lot of the shitty altcoins which would probably lead to less overall drama for everyone

Or how about people stop getting involved with these shit/scam coins? And if they do and they get scammed or lose their money it's their own fault. They only even exist because morons keep buying into them and it blows my mind why people even bother with these things. 9/10 coin announcements should be just ignored and let them quickly sink into obscurity. People would then stop creating them unless they could offer something different.

Its mostly scams, but there are a few gems in there. Dismiss them for your own loss.

Regarding OP's suggestion, I would say a lot who invest are aware of the risk, they are trying to sell-off in time and leave.

Screw that, I might make some money! If I don't though, it's your fault for not protecting me.

i agree with you, but when any noob he sees SR. member saying about a shitcoin " oh looks interesting " and pools owners fighting to be the first to add it on their pools, well noobs ends up mining it or bying it, and after 1 week dev leaves and people loose their money.

--------------------------

im not saying it's BCT fault, i think BCT is irreplaceable in cryptoworld, i hope the Moderators can find a solution to reduce the scammers and the scamcoins.

Well it would be more about moderators modereating altcoin section and mark potential scams or i don't know, we have few coins that are really legit and try hard but pump and dump scams get more people involved as they promise big return, that sucks.

Well newbs are always going to newb so we can't do anything about that, but who gets to decide what is a 'valid' coin and what is a scamcoin? It's just going to cause more problems if we remove some coins and not others especially when devs/bagholders/miners/investors complain. It's the policy here to not get involved in scams for this reason. The community needs to moderate and police itself on these matters and for some people they will only ever learn the hard way.

And what would you propose we do? Turn this place into a fascist state? Make it so you have to pay before you can post up business threads? Get governments involved and have them regulate this forum?

People really need to fucking think before they open their mouths on complicated issues.

Maybe the warning that is seen in Securities and Long Term Lending threads could be expanded to some of the alt coin sections? Hard to say if that would actually have any effect though...

In the short amount of time it took me to read this thread, 5 new cryptocurrencies were created.  :D

Rofl , made me laugh to death  :D
@OP Everyone is free to create his own coin and I don't see what bitcointalk forums have anything to do with it

That is true. The only way to stop scams is to not be an idiot. Almost every new created alt coin is will be useless. So stop investing in dubious coins. Maybe some big ones like PayCoin is secure - but time will tell. For now observe.

you cant stop scammers, you can only prevent it.
