Title: BFL Preorders -- What did you get? | Who has the lowest order number?
Post by: Garr255 on June 23, 2012, 11:37:36 PM
I don't have tons of money, so I just bought a Jally, about 30 seconds after they published the forms :)

I'm going to wait a minute before publishing this so IRC buddies have a bit of an upper hand ;)

Lowest order numbers:
Code:
Jally    - Garr255 - 1656
Single   - OgNasty - 1657
Mini Rig - blackprapor - 1710

Also,
The test orders that Steve and I put through to their database entries were 1650-1655.

So 1656 and 1657 are the lowest order numbers after the page was made public.

Woot! I get the first ASIC!

Congrats on your huge success; Bit-Pay is a great tool.
:D

EDIT: Grabbed a Jalapeno for the office too (order #1670).

I bought 3 singles the day before their announcement for between 150 and 165 coins. So I'm kind of stuck with these guys now :/

I agree, because I bought my jalapeno immediately after and my order number was just above my SC order number.  So that begs the question, "Who has the lowest order number?"

Here is one for the conspiracy theorists out there.  Why did this whole thing get pushed out so fast?  I mean from like a June 1 pre-announcement to a June 15th announcement to pre-orders on 6/23 for a product that won't ship til 10/?/2012 maybe???  WTF??  As a business model I just don't get it. You will only alienate your consumer base and kill all current gen orders.

Also, not a current single has really been shipped in over a week and only 4 mini-rigs in existence. It smells of the cheap sourced FPGAs drying up. Why else push so hard and foam everyone up? Not that it takes much around here. ;D   Ok, talk amongst yourselves.

It's harder to alienate customers when you have a monopoly in a demanded industry.

I appreciate your position in supporting Bitcoin by using bitcoins.

However, not all of us are liquid in bitcoins and even use fiat lines of credit.  And, like others have mentioned, those who are liquid in bitcoins are most likely long time community members and speculators who have a decent sized cache of bitcoin.

So, taking only bitcoins, while is admirable on one point, ignores the fact that they are ignoring a certain segment of their existing customer base.

Reality is bitcoin isn't dominating exchange.  Ignoring customers who are still primarily based in fiat (imagine that) will leave a lasting impression.

Jesus Christ 1695 people pre-ordered. Makes me wonder if it's even worth it for the people at the end of the line. Difficulty is going to be pushed to the Moon by these first 1000 something owners.

Edit: wait a second, these order # could be random and definitely no sequential..I'm behind another guy who clearly ordered BEFORE me.

I think the order numbers didn't start at 1. There's no way 1655 other people ordered before I did.

I suspect they just continued BFL's preexisting order numbering system. ~1650 prior orders for Singles/Mini Rigs seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Yeah you're definitely right. So we basically have no way of knowing our place in line unless BFL tells us.

In that case I guess I better order a Jalapeno stick as well ;) Hot & Spicy Hashes 4 Me :)

I think it is very very possible that they already have 1700+ orders,

the reason is, I placed 2 orders, did one order and felt needed to pick one more up, and went and did another order. So here goes.  My first order was 1707, the next order number  was 1733, which was placed about 25 mins later, if they have sequential numbering that's about 26 orders in 25 mins.

This is going to be fun.....

Also a possibility that a lot of people placed the orders first and only then realized that full payment was required and then cancelled some. But as soon as your request is sent, they would issue the confirmation mail. we can remove about 5% of total also I guess.

Well damn, I probably should have ordered a few Singles to resell. Although because the price of BFL stuffs is tied to fiat, if BTC goes up I'd be losing coin.

I'm not sure if I should be saying it here but here it goes:
Sonny says that they're going to split the batch into 3 lines, not 2 as previously stated. The third is for upgrades only. This model is decided to be the most fair. So I guess you should be taking into account if the order has an upgrade and also the order gets a place in the line after its actually been paid for. So these numbers don't really mean much. Mine for example, is 1710 for mini rig upgrades.
Good to know -- thanks.

hehehe. *dons the tinfoil hat*  Which is precisely why they released when they did. The BTC price had just lulled down to about $6.40

Then after all the knucle heads get done rushing in to be first the price will jump back up, maybe to over $7 from all the rest of the knucle heads trying to buy BTC. ;p

*forgets to remove tinfoil hat*

So, let me get this staight. First shipment is not 'scheduled' until Oct but we are happy to give them money now 3 months+++ before then?

BFL promised a 60-day refund guarantee if they fail to meet shipping and/or performance claims.

Oops, read it wrong.  If it ships over 60 days late you can get a refund.

I thought Serge was refering to the Knucleheads giving BFL their money 3++ months early. ;p

Also, being that BFL have given themselves 60 days BEYOND the target date(which they made sure to fucking leave out). Then it is quite likey the first units will be 5++ months.

I placed an order for 2 SC Singles (upgrade).  My order number is 1801, but it's meaningless since it's a bankwire transfer and I'll have to wait for them to send me wiring instructions, and then arrange for the transfer and wait for it to be processed and confirmed.

Man, I'm pissed.  Just because I don't have time to sit at the computer all day, I don't see when the preorder is made live?  Heck, I'm on their mailing list for announcements - why didn't they send an announcement when they put the preorders live?

Just hope they aren't going to screw over the folks who already have orders in for prior-gen singles and want to convert.

Order #1823... wow, 150 orders between go live and now.  I'm WAY back on the list.  :(

I think just placing the order gets you your place in line.

I'm pretty sure your place in line is only set when they confirm the receipt of your payment.

^this as confirmed by BFL int he thread they made jsut about the topic of these new units. They explain that and some other things people still seem unsure about....

#1821 on the order for one Single trade-in.  I'm wussing out on trading in the other nine.
If this is a long con, it's going to rank with one of the best.

Guys, i'm starting a fund to hire a private investigator in Kansas. Who wants to chime in? If you're serious, you can send PM my way.

I have a list of private investigators, but we can discuss who and how much we should pay.

FYI, private investigator can pull alot more personal records that we can ever be able to. Depend on the fee, even driving infractions can be seen.

I have dealt with a PI here locally b4, its a must have service "sometimes"

paypal offers buyer protection. does bank wire? I've never used bank wire but i doubt it does. I don't like that one bit.

also, tomorrow is Sunday. banks are closed. just fucking great. Just toss me to the back of the line and hang me by my balls BFL.

No protection at all. Bank wire takes time to "clear". Once the fund is cleared, BFL can move it and you get no way to get it back.

@ 2 x 40gh/s

two orders @ 1707 & 1733, you can remove one from that, cause, I did not complete the bitcoin transaction through bit pay, if they give a new address to complete, I might be happy(I am really happy with one though), according to the posts then, the units I receive would be the 50th piece, we have a half century.....now going on to the next piece which would be the 76th one in the line.

As of now, I am offering that if unconfirmed one also gets confirmed, I shall be offering up one for sale. I am not looking at this as profit making chance or anything. At best we will hold a lottery. I expect close to real price and also only minor add-on amount for getting it decently quick to the order table for you.

why isn't anyone offering their line in the queue for some crazy amount, couldn't resist asking that........

just hope I am getting the first one in the Indian Subcontinent......probably possible....

I just ordered 1 SC Single upgrade

Order # 1870

However, my bit-pay receipt says it's expired and I owe 0.0001 BTC, heh.

I hope this doesn't mean I'm tossed at the end of the line...

I'm assuming I'll get something for this one of these days, but as of now, I'm tapped out of BTC!  Feeling nervous if price of Bitcoin decides to skyrocket and I have no coins to cash in.

Ordered one J #1842 via bitpay.
High order number because I took a few hours to decide. I had accumulated just barely enough bitcoins for the purchase from my 6950 + 6450 and more recent 5830 over the past 6 months. I only recently started doing the mining 24-7. Assuming no difficulty change, it'll take me until September to gain it all back again  :P
Let's see what happens.

not sure about that, sure they would be tied up for today at least tomorrow. I got one guaranteed, for the other probably speak to them and see whether they would allow another payment through bit-pay for the old order, or otherwise. Waiting for their bank wire details, they said they would get in touch.

cheers

2207. Ordered 4 Jalapinos. Hope we all get them at roughly the same time so we can all mine before the difficulty spike...

Also, every order number is not necessarily an actual order, I am also 2197, but the 15 minutes on Bit-Pay timed out before I could get to the end of the block chain and send the coins.

If you send the coins to the payment address and it doesn't register with them until after the 15 minutes, they get alerted to the late payment.

If the coin's new exchange rate still covers the purchase, it will go through. If not, you get credited, and they will email you for the remainder.

I had a decent several-email conversation with Anthony and Stephen at bitpay.com, and they explained this process at a time I was concerned my delayed transaction would be lost.

They were pretty damned responsive to my emails too, I didn't have to wait long at all, at 10p EDT and later, on Saturday night, to get multiple replies to my questions, either.

I'm rarely impressed by payment processors, but this one definitely handled their business, and are worth dealing with.

BFL, could take several lessons from these guys about customer service.

No, your place in line is determined by the date that the order is paid - instantly for BTC and whenever the funds appear in their account for wire transfer. Actually, your "effective" paid date for transfers is determined by the # days after they send the wire transfer info it takes for funds to arrive in their account. So, if you ordered on the 6/23, got the wiring info on 6/28, and the funds arrive in their account on 6/29, your effective paid date would be 6/24. The order number probably determines your place relative to other orders paid on the same day though.

Will be interesting how much the difficulty spikes when these all come online.

I think this needs more insight from BFL. And I have an open question about that to the forum BFL Engineer. BFL-Eng will try to get some more details. The reason it is importnat is kinda obvious, if they keep these prices, the ROI's will eventually take too long. So, I personally would not order any more equipment until I get that insight. Order numbers start around #1600 and I know they went over #2300 about mid week. Assume 800 orders, and average of 200GH per order on average (yeah that is random...but also the point is that we don't know where the hash rate is going). Anyway, that is 200GH/order x 700 orders = 140Thash to be added to the network hash rate just from initial to midweek orders. So, that could easily go to 300TH. Current difficulty is based on 12.5TH. So, difficulty will fly when network hash rate hits 312TH. So, go figure how long it will take you to pay off any BFL equipment if that is the case 1.5years? 2 years? Will the equipment even be warrantied for that long? So, it might be better to just buy bitcoins with current BFL hardware pricing. Orders in the first week or two are probably safe, but Im skeptical. Anyway, let's see what the engineer has to provide if/when he ever gets some details.

I'm just a little disappointed that they sent me the wiring info today, on a friday after the banks closed, so that I get pushed back two days in the orderline without fault of my own since my bank wont process any bank transfers till monday.

Well it's possible that they might go by working days so that people who get the wiring info on Friday aren't unfairly screwed, but they haven't said this. I'm hoping that when they email the final order confirmation, this will specify what the effective order date is.

The average order is 200GH/s?! That's assuming we go by the data in this thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=89685.0

At current there are about 900 orders (into the 2500s). That thread has 38 listed orders. That's a pretty small sample. But here's what those 38 orders have listed:

6 SC Mini Rigs
65 SC Singles
53 Jalapenos

That's (6x1000) + (65x40) + (53x3.5) = ~8.8TH/s.
8.8THs/38 orders = ~230GHs/order, which is about your estimate.

However, almost half of that is one order for 4 SC MR, so that will skew the scale a bit high.
Now lets be more realistic and subtract Gigavps's 4 SC MR order, and assume that there are not 25 people willing to put 120,000 USD for multiple rack mount rigs. that brings us down to:

(2x1000) + (65x40) + (53x3.5) = ~4.8TH/s.
4.8THs/37 orders = ~130GHs/order.

Our sample rate is about 4% of the total orders placed to date, so lets assume all 900 orders average the same as these 38 (not likely, but it's all the numbers we have).
25x8.8 = 220TH/s. Close to 20x the current difficulty. Or
25x4.8 = 120TH/s. Close to 10x the current difficulty.

You're talking somewhere between these two numbers.

I'm just a little disappointed that they sent me the wiring info today, on a friday after the banks closed, so that I get pushed back two days in the orderline without fault of my own since my bank wont process any bank transfers till monday.

I received wire transfer instructions and had the wire sent out Friday (they should receive funds immediately the same day).  I received the email with the wire transfer instructions about 45 minutes after I went to bed, otherwise I could have sent it on Thursday.

In any case, everybody paying by wire transfer will probably be in the same boat with no wire transfers over the weekend, so I wouldn't worry too much.  The only competition for place in line would be new orders paid by bitcoin, I think.

Don't forget to account for the order #'s that will not be paid or are just plain out fake. And that BFL had posted at about ~550 orders that everyone who ordered thus far 'should' be ok to get something. This was stated in a manner that was highly suggestive that they had reached their first run capacity in any effect. Then we also have to guess just how many of each type they actually have ordered for the first run.

I got nothing! There was this voice in my head, telling me not to buy (yet). Why pay BFL with Bitcoin if I can tripple their value with Pirate at the same time. Those who ordered first were always the ones that had to wait longest... :-\

I thought about it in the exact same manner! thats why I end up ordering 2 BFL SC Singles instead of 10 !

Anyway, let's see what the engineer has to provide if/when he ever gets some details.

||bit

25x4.8 = 120TH/s. Close to 10x the current difficulty.

You're talking somewhere between these two numbers.

There's another thread with data:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=89538.0

Assuming each order was for only one of the relevant type of unit, we have 18460 Gh/114 orders = 162 Gh/order minimum. So the two sets of data roughly agree.

We have to keep in mind though that neither sample is representative since each consists of people enthusiastic enough to report their orders, and these people may be disposed toward larger orders. For all we know, the unreported orders might be dominated by orders for 1 single or a couple of Jalapenos. As a rough number that's easy to work with, I'm going to go with 100 Gh/order, with the assumption that this could be off by a factor of two or more either way (but is most likely on the low side). If they can cover the first 550 orders in the first production run, that's 55 Th +/- 2x coming online more or less at the same time. Yikes. I hope the pools will be ready for this.

:D

When you order using BTC, do they just give you their BTC address? I don't have that much money in my BTC wallet right now and I'm thinking about ordering an SC. I would imagine they'll just send me their BTC address....

Also, could so many people buying higher tasking hardware, could this really cause it harder / longer to get BTC?

Thanks.
Mike.

Assuming an average $800 from each, that's $1,200,000. So all the theories about BFL not following through cannot be logically valid (yet), as they haven't made nearly enough sales for that to be in their best interest.

yeah because I created an order and got 3000~ and I havent even paid yet. I was considering not doing it but I may just go through with it. I could've just not sent the money and ignored the order completely.

They did not give me an updated order number when I changed my old single order into a new single order. So there are most likely order numbers that are not being tracked in your count.

My order was for two Singles and three Jalapenos with three more SC Singles being added.

Maybe really small group of people are sending in ~20 fake orders a day across the planet from different fake ip addresses.
Just to make sure the speculation on the forums will maybe hold people from ordering.
I to, wonder... ???

My guess is that out of those 2k orders, at least 1500 are real. If you take 100Ghs per order on average, that's around 150Ths pre ordered. Only BFL knows the real figures  ::)

purchased

3 jalepenos order number 3681

Also ordered 2 sc singels and 1 mini rig with sc upgrade, havent received the order info yet for those so Im assuming that the order number will be less than 3681 since I put in the order for the singles and the mini rig before the jalepenos, they say I wont lose my place in line until i get the order info to wire the money..(which I hope wont be too long)

My order number for the mini rig is 3543.. still havent received order info for the singles.....

You don't actually believe that, do you?

On their website, they list these 4 industries before bitcoin mining:
Computational research
Medical imaging
Packet integrity verification
Generic fingerprinting engine

On their driver page, they have what appear to be valid download links. You ever tried clicking on them? There is no such software that uses their hardware in any way.
