The only genres/music styles I don't like are the ones played on the public radio all the time, like mainstream (what is now called) "hip hop" and such.

Over the past few years I have been into dubstep, but recently, because of how bad the genre is turning, I am enjoying DnB (again). There are few producers who create the dubstep that I enjoy, but DnB has its own 'sound' that never seems to lack.

I get into different moods for different types of music, although I'm usually into the mood for something calming: folk music, singer/songwriter type stuff. I can get into some trance/dance music, or even dubstep, but never country or rap. They just don't do anything for me.

I listen to pretty much anything. My favorite would be classic rock and outlaw country style music. About the only thing I don't like much are the more extreme forms of metal and christian rock.

I like to listen to stuff that meets the basic criteria of music. It must have a rhythm and changing tones, in other words: melody.

Not everything that is called music actually contains a melody. I've noticed certain types of dubstep to be a particularly notorious offenders.

I guess I'll be the one to point out Dubstep can have a great melody, and doesn't have to be annoying grinding noises smashed together.

Yes, but ars gratia artis. I dunno, I'm not keen on dubstep, but I think if someone creates it as art then it is art. Semantics over what we call music I guess. Maybe acoustic art would be a better term for some things.

its gotta have a melody to it.  and you are right, some dubstep is awful, some i enjoy.

I like highly repetitive and loud preachy music that even when you turn it off, it turns itself back on in a different place in the house and when you try to change the channel it plays itself again and tells you that it is not the same channel and completely different music.

Wilco, Nick Drake, and Vashti Bunyan never get old to me. I like folk, Brit folk, Americana. Anything Vincent moon has featured. Also a lot of that indie shit and some electronic (mostly AnCo). Occasionally some post-punk revival. Various rap artists... Currently entertained by the golf wang. But yeah, Wilco takes the cake by a mile. Saw them in Milan earlier this year. Obviously, I'm bored as hell right now.

I listened to primarily video game music in my tween years, and still do today, but have added punk and classical to the mix. I find that it's nice to have an eclectic taste in music, because it makes it difficult to get bored of listening to the same kind of thing all the time. If I'm tired of Beethoven, I switch to Nirvana. Video game music also provides a nice mix of fun tunes and dramatic ones, and the lack of lyrics lets my mind wander more freely.
