Title: [Review] Spondolies SP20 Post by: Mushroomized on December 17, 2014, 01:44:42 AM Note: this miner was supplied to me for free by spondoolies legendary members promotion - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=887807.0
Alright so I just got this is yesterday and set it up today... here we go... https://i.imgur.com/tR5jjAp.jpg The packaging The device is boxed in a way so that there is plenty of room for the box to get smashed and bumped without damage to it, a good thing for something thats going to be shipped overseas. Speaking of shipping, this came really fast, 4 days! https://i.imgur.com/h0ku1uq.jpg The miner The miner itself is fairly cool looking, like a big silver kitkat bar. Its got your standard miney-bits, and 4 6 pin connector slots for power. I'm using 2 750 watt corsair psus... this thing is loud! https://i.imgur.com/1KHC008.jpg Here it is set up in my garage, I tried using a raspberry pi with an ethernet bridge however it doesnt seem to want to work. The wifi settings dont work either, and after I updated the firmware - seemed to be disabled completely... NOISE heres a video of how loud it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xj0qnzHEzIk&feature=youtu.be Its really loud! but, since its in my garage its not a big deal. With the door closed you can hardly hear it. I live in a townhouse and it sounds like when someone in the house over is vacuuming, not a big deal SETUP This thing is a ease in the butt to set up. its actually easier than setting up the BFL jalapeno i used to have. Though comparing this miner to BFL is very bad, im sorry i even said that. I had a lot of issues setting up a wireless way to mine, but later on I just plugged it into my main router. I only mined for a bit to test because the main router is in the family room and the noise/power consumption is too much for that area but it was easy. In the future I plan on setting this up in a better area, but with home renovations/ diy stuff going on I didnt have the ability to currently. The mining part is easy, just plug in myminer.io and it lists all the miners on your network and their status and IP. If you are connected to wifi - you can even check it out on your phone which is very useful! I'd assume if you use a VPN or wrote your own software you could easily check up on the miner away from home- but thats for another time. anyway, my rating of this miner is 8/10 - Very Nice. The best miner I have ever used. My standards for a 10/10 would be a noiseless solar miner, so 8/10 is very good Title: Re: [Review] Spondolies SP20 Post by: raskul on December 17, 2014, 08:04:19 AM Quote like a big silver kitkat bar. :D re the wireless capabilities, i am 99% sure that Zvi is working on a firmware to enable this, but don't quote me on this.. it's been a strange coupla days and I could have dreamt it. I have ordered a wireless bridge from saltyspitoons suggestion, whihc will be here later in the week for the addition to my review i will be talking about mining. Thanks again my friends

Title: Re: [Review] Spondolies SP20 Post by: cloverme on December 18, 2014, 12:25:03 AM Nice... how much power is in use at the wall at full hashing power?

About 1120W Title: Re: [Review] Spondolies SP20 Post by: wh00per on December 18, 2014, 02:01:55 AM Is the shelf that you have the miner on screwed into the studs of the shared wall of an attached garage? Many people built their rigs right and now they reuse everything .. or maybe not .. http://imagecdn-0.findnsave.com/60/2666420 That black thing might be a payment in full for rendered services to a fellow early miner: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=112068.msg1212448#msg1212448 Title: Re: [Review] Spondolies SP20 Post by: Mushroomized on December 19, 2014, 12:40:55 AM Is the shelf that you have the miner on screwed into the studs of the shared wall of an attached garage? They've sent me over $3k in free gear as long as I write a review about it. They should have picked me :D oh well, probably going to buy one anyway.
I do have a question though. You said you used 2x 750W total power supplies. Since quite a bit of that wattage is in the 3V and 5V rails, the grand total of the 12V supply via the 6-pin connectors is well under 1000W, especially after the loss from heat that nobody ever puts into their PSU's numbers. So what TH/s speed did you get with that limited wattage and were the PSUs spewing out tons of heat? |
