It is normal , more people are selling their bitcoin for buy the christmas gifts for the family. If you want to see the  rise of bitcoin  price , you have to wait  after (maybe ~ before) the next block reward halving.

Difficulty keeps going down, that might be one of the reasons.

Use this drop in your advantage to buy up some coins.

I think users are starting to spend the bitcoin they hold because there isn't much news recently which could bring prices up in the near future. This is good for bitcoin as a currency.

Just a normal trend. People need money to buy gifts for their loved ones this Christmas, so they sell their precious bitcoins to fiat just to buy those.
How I wish more things can be bought with bitcoin. Wouldn't it be nice?

Buying people presents for Christmas isn't the driver of declining prices.

The driver is that there are more sellers than buyers.

To everyone's Christmas point though, if more retailers accepted BTC and those retailers didn't want to sell their BTC as soon as payment was received you'd see a more stable price.

For the recent news, check out www.coindesk.com (http://www.coindesk.com), they usually have the latest.

I doubt this is just christmas spending occurring. Anyone have thoughts of what truly is causing the downslide? I think it has to do with lack of substantial news for bitcoin and with ApplePay taking over the "new and exciting payment" news, bitcoin is now a burner story to a lot of news people.

Well often the markets die down at christmas because almost everyone is away from their computers, I wouldn't really run around in a panic until after the first quarter of next year and yes, I'm being that specific.

Everyone has been selling btc for weeks, cheap gifts on black friday, need to buy christmas gifts soon, higher fuel bills due to colder weather, end of tax year soon, those make btc price keeps going down, I think 2015 will be a fresh start for bitcoin...

Merry christmas and Happy new year :)

December 2013 is not going to repeat itself, but I have good hopes for mid 2015.

It still stays a good price i find. The market is always a little bit calmer at the end of the year. That's so with everything. Maybe that can be a reason.

Usually around the holidays I stop trading stocks as well. People tend to sell off assets to pay off credit cards and to buy gifts so you can see a drop off even though nothing fundamentally has changed.

IT has been consistently going down all year, I think the bubble that spiked last year caused much of this.  I don't think that value was supposed to sky rocket like that right away, it should go up gradually but it will just take some time

Exactly. Actually many people are selling their bitcoin in way to sustain chrimstas expens for friends, family ecc. But, I don't like so much this way to do things. Be sure that price will raise the next year probably :)

People cashing out for fiat to buy presents because few people are yet using bitcoin directly to buy goods.

Some big whales dumping huge amount of coins to get fiat to buy his/her most expensive Christmas gift? Seriously I can't think of any good reason, but what I say here doesn't mean it makes no sense. I mean it's possible, right?  :D

I don't see what Christmas has to do with anything. There is no reason that xmas should or would affect the price of bitcoin.

The price of bitcoin has been trading in a similar trading range for several months now and it is not surprising that the price has fallen to ~300 and then rebounded

Well, BTC going slowly back to more realistic price, 1-5$. It's just a money carrier, nothing else. There's already paypal  :)
Blockchain tech will live on but bitcoin was just a bubble  :)
Buy assets and gold if you want to make some money, buy BTC if you like to dream about money but actually lose it  :)
You believers are 2 years late  :)

Paypal is not safe to use for either the consumer nor the merchant. PP has arbitrary rules that make it generally uncertain if you will be able to charge-back a transaction making both parties take an unknown risk when dealing with eachother, bitcoin solves this problem by making both parties have a very certain risk so both parties know what kinds of precautions to take in order to mitigate these risks.

Christmas is tomorrow, the price won't be up over night. I don't think that there'll be significant "ups" again, it will stay around 300$.

It will stay and nobody knows when bitcoin will rise.

Usually when we are not aware to something, then something unexpected can happen.

Winter is coming! Maybe that's the only reason for dumping Bitcoin in these days... Store as much as BTCs in this bear market, these low prices are good for buying. You'll be grateful when you're selling them with 'at least' doubled price. :)

Why are people dumping Bitcoin for winter?  Plus it isn't winter everywhere.  How can you assure people it is good to buy right now?
