i've lost one in a ponzi, was x2 reward, until they run away

I lost just a few dollars using blockchain.info wallet.  I forgot my password and there is not way to recover it.  I dont use them anymore!

Correction- "how did you 'loose' your bitcoin".

There is no option for: "I formatted my drive together with my wallet."

Lost in a hacker-break and a Ponzi site,but fortunately not much.


 
That's really a bad story,but Did you try some professional drive data recovery service?

My biggest lost was on Mazacoin. With AUR I didnt technically lose as I mined it, but I could have made a couple of BTCs and didn't sell. Painful but well, gotta learn from the mistakes.

I've never lost bitcoin , maybe 0.05 BTC in an old ipo of altcoin. I've also never participated in a ponzi scheme , it is not right and very high of risk.

Gox took 85 from me.  I made it through their first big fiasco and got all my fiat and Bitcoins back so I assumed the second time would work out similarly.  Doesn't appear to be the case.  I also lost a few hundred to a buyer in Hong Kong via ebay/paypal/chargeback nonsense.  Nearly every ebay buyer turned out to be a scammer.

You should have added more options to it. Anyway, i haven't for anything like that but mostly in gambling & alt's

That was back in 2010 when I lost 100 BTC that I CPU-mined on a spare server. I forgot all about it and set up a web site on the server, so I could not really remove it for recovery. Plus I only remembered about it when I got back into Bitcoin in 2011 and started taking things more seriously. The data was probably long overwritten by then.

Lots of people (if not most) got screwed by dishonest exchanges, who claimed to be 'hacked' which was very likely massive bullshit.
Should they tick "Online wallet" and "My wallet got hacket", even know both are not correct?

I actually ended up just breaking over even on the site, I just invested till I recouped my losses.

I put my wallet got hacked, but that isn't entirely accurate.  What happened was I got scammed out of a few coins on localbitcoins.  I agree, this survey needs more choices.  Plus, I keep my coins in multiple ways.

I just hope we won't see anytime soon the major news reporting:

"Recent survey shows that 99% of bitcoin users have had their wallets hacked" or anything like that  :)

Haven't lost any out of error just a couple scams when I was first getting into the scene. Was brutal.

I don't invest or put my btc on anything unless I'm 100% sure it's legit, I'm careful like that.
The closest thing I've gotten to losing BTC is investing in Ripple. I don't believe in altcoins as I do in BTC, but I got really close to investing in altcoins once.

Well, technically speaking you can never be 100% sure that any business is legit.

It's a good practice not to keep any significant amounts with any 3rd party for longer than it's necessary.

Exactly the same (not so many coins though). Knew about bitcoin in June 2011. 15 days after that, gox was hacked and I grew some skin thanks to that. Too much skin I guess.

Gambling. I sent a transaction to primedice and they took my money without crediting it. I won't play again there.

I have done many bad investments and a few good ones

I never lost my coins, I use a desktop wallet on a computer that has nothing but currency wallets, it is on its own internet connection and is disconnected from the internet when not transferring coins. I also do not use it for anything else, Chrome and firefox are not even installed, Google, facebook, yahoo and youtube are all blocked within CMD All that computer is used for is sending coins nothing else. :) I do not read emails there I do not surf the web, I do nothing else from that computer.

Wow that's pretty extreme. Unless you got a ton of BTC that's not really necessary.

Why don't you try and use that computer for mining instead of doing nothing with it? it's not like you're gonna get hacked as soon as you do something else.

Never lost bitcoins but I have seen many people lost their bitcoins this will create fear to bitcoin users.

tbh, I lost 0.93 Bitcoins in GoldenCows when the rate was at 500-600 $ / bitcoin. After coming to bitcointalk, I'll review the replies under respective topics as much as I can before investing.

Mark karp stole some of my BTC and ive made and lost some trading, other than that never lost any to a technical problem.

I feel like the survey is very poorly prepared. But anyway, I lost a mobile wallet when wiping a phone.. I'm trying to convince myself the lesson of being vigilant was worth more than what I lost.

Some people started losing their BTC with clicking on random links.

Sometime when people go about investing in Dice sites, and other sites, then Its hard to say that the site would run away with funds in 2 years from now.

I have never lost BTC in scams, well, if you count certain alts like Maza as scams, then yes I lost some...

personally , I've never lost any of my Bitcoin , if I did maybe a small amount (like .. so small)  , I was going to lose them all about 200$ BTC worth once but I used some recovery programs to recover my saved Private keys then I just imported them to Blockchain.info ;D

Forgot my password for my first Blockchain wallet. Oh the old times  ;D

I got scammed by maybe 0.5 and that's it.

I don't know German, but it seems that the survey is not available anymore.

I do not know for sure how many total BTC has been lost, when I was trying to play trading.
but compared with the BTC which I could that was nothing. : D

I've never lost any bitcoins. Luckily I educated myself from day 1 how to properly secure them.

The only way I've "lost" some is by attempting trading and ending up with less btc than I started with :p. I learned my lessons fast lol
