Title: Is it Possible to Solo Mine with Silverfish 28M Miners
Post by: Convicted2008 on December 20, 2014, 04:12:43 AM
Is it possible to solo mine with Silverfish miners? Try ever setting that I and others can think of other than connecting to a pool which seems the only way to solo mine with them.

You can solo mine with any miner, the question is, what are you mining ?

And the question is if it is worth, especially if difficulty is already too high.

aside from the dedicated software I don't know, the way to solo mine is to create a configuration file for the wallet of the coin you want to solo mine where it is written address and port where your hardware will connect.

There are many guide to solo mine, around (saw one earlier this week on this part of the forum), just follow it, and it should work.

Try to follow that guide: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=83371.0
(it works for every coins and isn't specific to litecoin, which might be a bit out of reach to solo miner)

I'm using 2 28MH Silverfish miners. They do not have the option to disable the stratum+tcp command in the settings. It automatically puts it in there and they are no way to remove it. The only way I can find to solo mine with it is by connecting it to my own pool.

http://imgur.com/YTnyIO2  <---This is what the miner config looks like. You cannot change the stratum protocol to nothing. Like I said it auto puts that in there.

I know how to solo mine with BFG or CGMiner. But with these miners I'm unsure of how I could work around it autoadding the stratum+tcp into the mining pool line.

Has anybody ever sold mined with them without connecting to a pool? Someone please let me know so I can stop wasting my time looking for answers.

Yes you can mine with them but you will not find any blocks unless you mine crap coins.

Waste of electricity

There are many guides on the internet regarding solo mining.

You need to make a configuration file in your %appdata% (on windows) and then allow the ports to connect.

You then connect to 192.168.1.1:XXXX (port number here) and then mine.

Believe me, I wouldn't even ask a question if I hadn't already googled it a million times. There seems to be no way to connect these miners to mine solo other than mining in a pool because of the auto add stratum+tcp. :/

If anybody can show me how to connect them to mine solo there's a 0.025 bounty. I know its not much, but I also know if its that hard. I'll just mine in a pool.

Please link me to the coin and miner software and I'll try to make a tutorial for you.

This guide is mainly for windows however it can be slightly adjusted to be compatible with Mac and Linux Operating Systems.

Go to %appdata%/altcoin and create a text document called altcoin.conf

Inside the altcoin.conf file add the following lines.

Code:
rpcuser=miner1
rpcpassword=miner1password
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1 //if you'll be mining on the same pc then this will be fine
rpcport=1234 //the rpc port number can be found on the specifications
daemon=1
server=1
gen=0

Save it and then open your altcoin wallet. Note: Your altcoin wallet must be open at all times while mining.

Open your miner and in the pool url type:

Code:
192.168.0.1:1234
or same port number

In the worker username type in the rpcuser

In the worker password type in the rpcpassword.

Then you can mine!

Oh I forgot to mention, the silverfish aren't connected directly to my pc. They have a wireless connection. Does this make any difference?

Yes, as the rpcallowip function needs to allow a device to connect to the wallet on the same network.

Surely they are someone out there that has Silverfish miners and have asked the same question I have. Now the only thing is finding that person with the golden knowledge.

The issue that your having is that it seems the silverfish only support stratum while mining to a wallet only supports getwork iirc.

You may be able to overcome this with a stratum proxy -- https://github.com/Stratehm/stratum-proxy

Point the silverfish at the proxy, then the proxy at the wallet

The stratum proxy should work to fix some compatibility.  It has been a while since I had my SF-28.

Nicehash never worked with the SF software it would do 99 percent reject.   Nicehash has a area it talks about proxy some, https://www.nicehash.com/index.jsp?p=asic .

I hope that it does. I can't find any other way of getting these units to solo mine. Its been a quite difficult journey just to come to this phase of the issue. So if anybody has been following this, I sure as hell hope that you don't have the same problems I've been having. Don't get me wrong these units work excellect when connected, but they should be a work around in the software to where you can disable the stratum+tcp command it adds.
