Title: Can't find Antminer S3 IP address - won't reset
Post by: hardhitter on December 22, 2014, 04:48:55 AM
I have tried using IP scanner to find the IP address and nothing is showing up for 192.168.0, 192.168.1, or 192.168.2.  I have tried resetting it multiple times in the hopes of resetting it to 192.168.1.99 but no luck.  Any suggestions?

What do the lights do?  Does it seem to still be hashing?

And on reset if you do it the IP should be 192.168.1.99 .   It takes around 10 seconds of holding in the little button after it takes a few minutes to do the restart.

The green and red lights are both on.  It's not hashing because I don't have it setup on my new router.  If I hold down the reset button nothing happens.  If I power it off and back on while holding reset then the red light flashes until I turn it off.

I would give it 3-5 mins to reset.  What IP range is your router using?

I've already given it an hour to reset and I've let it sit after turning it off.  The router is set to 192.168.0 but I've tried connecting it to a laptop set to 192.168.0 thru 192.168.2.  The IP scanner can find my other S3 just not this one.

It looks like there is no solution.  I should have checked earlier so I could have returned it.  Now I'm stuck with a faulty S3.

Hi guys,  I am also new to setting up these antminers .took me ages to set them up. So i will try and help you out. You might have done this already, But worth a try .
Ok i am assuming that your using windows. So start bar control. Panel. Networks. Change adapter settings. Right click local area connection. Then properties.
Go down to where it says internet protocol version 4. Click on the box for use the following ip address.  For ip address. Enter 192.168.1.1 subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Default gateway 192.168.1.100..then click ok .connect your pc or laptop too the miner using your RG45 Cable.open. a browser and type 192.168.1.99 You should get into the miner. After you set your miner up mind and reverse the adapter settings in your network adapter setting the ones that you changed.
Like i said you might have done this already .but i used ip scanner and all that, till i did it that way.good luck hope it helps .

I tried that but it didn't work.  What should preferred DNS server be or does it not matter?

Yes it is used.  I know the reset pin doesn't line up but I know I've been pushing it, pushing it real good.

Try pushing the reset button.at the same time as you cut the power to the ant.make sure
There is no power at all ,keep the reset button held in for about 30 seconds.
That's about all i can help you with. To be honest i thought my ant was dead aswell.
I sent mine back to the guy .he put my details in it for me and worked a treat.so the next
Few i bought the guy helped me with the info i relayed on to you..
Goodluck m8.

Not cool, I remember messing up the s3 settings and having to reset device.

Have you tried clicking on reset button without ethernet cable connected?
Try turning it off and then holding down reset button while turning it on waiting and then pressing it again..

Doesn't IP show up in the router settings page?

I can't find the IP anywhere.  I'll try different ways of holding the button and see if I can get any where with it.  I have 2 other S3 working fine.

Now I set my IP address to 192.168.0.50 on one of my miners and I can't connect to it anymore.  I've tried resetting it and it won't reset.  I changed my IP address on my 3rd S3 and now I cannot connect to it either.  I tried reset multiple times and it won't work.  WTF???? I now have 3 dead S3 that won't reset.  2 of them were working fine and all I did was change the IP.  Seriously what is the actual reset method to get it back to 192.168.1.99??? Nothing is working.

Anyone know how to actually reset one of these?  I have 3 of them and none of them will reset.

To find the ip, you'll need an android app called Fing, after you connect your S3 and power it up, if it connects automatically you'll proceed to go on your android phone and connect to the wi-fi of your router (the same one where S3 is connected, this is a must) then you'll scan network devices sand you ĺl see shenzen name with the local ip of the S3..

Let me know if you need any help.

what you are experiencing happened to me, perhaps you should configure your router to point a specific port to your antminer s3 ip, so it wont fail to connect via local ssh, if this does not work, try again from the last known internet that you configured the antminer.

It's not showing up on fing.  Do I need to change my router IP?  It's set to 192.168.0.1 right now so this will only show 192.128.0 devices correct?

I went one by one through 192.168.0-192.168.6 on the router and it's not showing up on any of those.  For all I know the LAN interface could be completely deleted.  Why is there no way to do a factory reset?

It will scan the main local ip, if the antminer is connected and running it will show up.

If the lan was deleted trying to reset is tje only hope, make sure you are really pushing thr button, open uo tje antminer s3 and check it out from there.

It only found anything connected that matched the router IP.  For example if the router is set to 192.168.0.1 it won't find the miner if it is set to 192.168.1.99.  I had to change the router to 192.168.1.1 to find a miner with IP 192.168.99.  So if the miner is set to 192.138.300.99 I would have to change the router settings 300 times before finally finding it.  The reset button doesn't do anything on all 3 of my S3.  It's like they put a fake button on all of the S3.

How are you getting on m8? I just got another s3, Had a bit hassle with it but working. What is your router subnet
gateway,192.168.0.1? or 192.168.1.1?

I think there is a firmware revision that disables the reset button.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=671189.msg10103503;topicseen#msg10103503

I have the same problem and I have setup a dozen or so with no problem until now.

1.  Install Wireshark on a laptop
2.  Connect the laptop to the S3 via a crossover cable
3.  Start wireshark and select the interface connected to the S3
4.  Look at the packets, find the arp hello of the miner, and it asking for it gateway arp
5.  Set your laptop to the same network to the same as the miner and reconfigure it

Just bought an s3 and the guy has set it to 192.168.16.108 and it's not showing up when I scan my network. My default up address is 192.168.0.1.  The only lights working on it are the network green and orange lights, fans are on too.

Can anyone help?

I bought 3 Antminer s3's along with 3 Corsair CX750 PSU's the other day for $50 and I just set them up tonight.

This is the first time i have set up any kind of mining rig and the standalone sh!t made it pretty easy.

The first thing i did was READ through everyone else's problems so i didn't jack mine up.

Thanks to everyone out there for helping all of us noobs get it right!

Anyways I set all 3 of them up tonight one at a time and they're all up and running 490-520 Gh/s

 1. Make sure your router is running 192.168.1.1 not 192.168.0.1

 2. Plug in  your cords and cables, PSU to s3 and ethernet cable from s3 to a open port on your router or switch

 3. Power on the PSU/s3 then cut the cotton end off of a Qtip and use the stick part of the Qtip as a reset tool. If there is a reset button in there you will hit i with this.

 4. With the power make sure the 2 green and 1 orange lights are on and use your reset tool to hit the button, hold down on the button until you see the green light above the ethernet cable slowly fade out. Once the green light goes out turn off the PSU and wait 30 seconds.

 5. Power everything back up, wait for the 3 blinking  lights to cycle and go solid. The red light will take a long time and blink its ass of but wait.

 6. Open your browser and go to your routers settings 192.168.1.1 and in you LAN setup you want to find the address reservation section.
In the address reservation section click ADD even though you don't see any devices yet. Once click ADD it will show you a list of devices and the s3 should be there with a ip address of 192.168.1.99 and name of UNKNOWN and maybe a MAC address similar to this C8:EE:A6:02: (all 3 of mine do) Mine i reserved the 1st address of 192.168.1.101 & named it antMiner_1.

 7. Open a new tab and go to 192.168.1.99 this will take you to the s3's login page. login and click on network, then click edit WAN, chnage static ip to dchp client, click switch protocol, then click save and apply, then power off your s3, wait 30 sec power it back on, wait for the lights to all blink and go solid.

 8. In the address bar type 192.168.1.(whatever address you reserved in the router) my 1st one was 192.168.1.101 hit enter and the s3 login page should come up, login and change whatever junk your going to change and your done.

Repeat those steps for each s3 and you shouldn't have any trouble losing or finding them and before you know it you will have one hot ass noisy room!

This is how I got mine working:-

(Using linux GUI)

I reset the antminer by holding in the button for 10 seconds, it then rebooted (I had a feeling it had been reset)

You will need 2 lots of settings. The first lot is to configure your pc/laptop to connect to the miners factory default settings.
The second lot will be configured into the miner.
Then the first lot will be discarded as when you perform 'internet connection sharing' the settings will change (these will now work with your miners new settings.

The default IP on the miner is: 192.168.1.99 so..
create a new ethernet connection
ipv4 settings
manual
address: 192.168.1.1
netmask: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.1.99
tick 'require ipv4'

then go back to the connections and click on 'Ethernet connection 1' (default)

You should now have network access to your miner - http://192.168.1.99 in a browser

Now, configure your miner with DHCP

Save and reboot.

Now, go back to the ethernet connection on laptop/pc, change from 'manual' to 'Shared to other Computers'
You will notice all the IP addresses change (10.42..)

a way of finding the miner IP is with the software like Advanced Port Scanner ... but i wanted to search from " 0.0.0.0" to "255.255.255.255"...

Is there any software that do that? ???

Yes you will need to change your router to 192.168.1.# to be able to find the S3 on its standard 192.168.1.1 address. Once you find it change it to DHCP in the settings and then change your router back if you wish.
