Title: Butterfly Labs Preorder
Post by: kaneda2004 on June 28, 2012, 05:23:36 AM
Hi guys, anyone have any luck preordering any of the new bitforce miners from butterfly labs?

I've tried phoning them to setup a wire and prepay for some units - but I guess they are so swamped I've not gotten a call back.

Any thoughts?

There is a delay in bank transfer requests, you keep your place in line (offset only by the time between you getting bank instructions and you paying) though

I'm curious why they'd sell them and not just mine with them. Apparently they think they can do more with the cash short term. Or they're keeping some and just selling enough to offset the cost of development and first run production.

In general: The guy who sells the shovel is making the money.

Hi, Do you know if BFL count weekends when they calculate your place in line, or just business days? I received the wire transfer instructions this Friday afternoon, so it won't go through until Monday, and might not even reach BFL until Tuesday or Wednesday. A 5 day offset would be disappointing, considering I think I actually placed one of the first 50 preorders or so. I would ask BFL directly but they seem way too busy to respond and since I have newbie status I can't post in the Custom hardware sub-forum where BFL seem to respond. Any clarification would be appreciated :)

I got my bank wire instructions on Thursday, sent out the money same day... no email back yet on final confirmation.. I'm really curious to what my position in line is, or even how many have been ordered.

I submitted my upgrade pre-order 2 days ago and it went through without any problems.
Paid with BTC, so no issue. I got an automated reply immediately. That was it. Nothing else. Order # 24XX for those who do the stats.
That is pretty much the same as some months back when I ordered the FPGA singles. Just one order confirmation and the waiting starts.
I found BFL responsive however, after the 6 weeks committed lead time elapsed, I sent an email and got an answer back with a modified ETA. For me, that was ok and I do not have any complaints. My units finally arrived and are busy now.

They work as expected and I would buy some more. If anyone wants to sale some from within the EU I would pay the original amount from BFL + 19% which equals my tax bill otherwise. I would do a bank transfer (no BTC left in the moment) upfront to a member with reputation.

thinking - is this my place in line?
can i get another $2500 and order two SCs on top later, and still keep my place in the line?

just thinkin'...

This is exciting! It's going to force GPU's out of BTC mining. Good and bad things might happen. :0P

people , i guess this is the beginning of the end of the bitcoin project
after running the new upcoming super fast miners,
the difficulty will go high up to the sky, then the after a while the bitcoin exchange rates will go down, then no body will be interested in investing in such a project.................sorry

Possibly, but I'd hope anyone with any sense would note your 1 post and realize you may not know what you're talking about. Then there is the "don't trust anyone" mentality they should have here, or anywhere on the net really. Next up is your lack of citing any sources at all.

I don't mean to flame you, and I've read some of the more veteran member's takes on what these high hash/s devices will do. I fear you may be right, but as I've only just started and have all the hardware already purchased for gaming, I'm at no loss if it does tank. I'm not even out any extra for electricity as I was folding@home prior to this.

How is difficulty related to the exchange rate?

The waiting time is around 12 weeks, I figure the new SC from BFL will take a little bit longer - but I hope not! ;)

The most worrying thing about investing in BFL ASIC is that there is no secondary market, so no resell value if mining becomes unprofitable. If a situation occurs where you don't want your BFL unit anymore and you try to sell it, chances are no one else is going to want it. That being said, I look forward to BFL shipping me the 4 units i ordered.

Also, escaping newbie prison with this post! :D

I find their payment options for the miners frustrating they should take CC! I'am sure they have their reasons.

once asics hit big time what will be the minimum amount of hashing required to be profitable? Will just one BFL 5G be enough?

even 100mh/s can be profitable depending how much btc will cost
