Much like euro-millions.com where users pay xBTC per box (5 numbers and 2 stars must be chosen). As many boxes can be purchased. Of course they will be purchased though the blockchain (embedded messages in TX IDs) to ensure validity and reliability.

Numbers range from 1-50 and stars from 1-9.

A draw occurs and tiers include:
5 Numbers and 2 Stars
2 Numbers and 0 Stars
(and all combinations between)

Each tier would payout differently (5 Numbers and 2 Stars being the jackpot).

The prize pool would likely be above 5BTC.

Thoughts?

There have already been a bunch of these around the forums.  Some are legit, most end up being scams.  So, you'll need to figure out how to "prove" to people it's fair.

I would probably do it with a trustworthy sort.  On a side note(i am sure you already have help or know how yourself)  I wouldn't mind helping designing the site, or something like that(For free, learning purposes)

No point to run a bitcoin lottery when you can just set your own ridiculous odds on any number of dice sites.

One positive of the National Lottery in the UK is the fact that profits go to charities and other things for the so called public good.

I know people often shout down centralisation here but if there was a board which managed the profits of such a lottery and used it for the perceived good of the Bitcoin community with the lottery ticket purchasers having a say in the spending of that BTC could make such an idea stand out and would be great publicity.

The problem with BTC lotteries is they don't gain enough attention and when they do its generally at the beginning but die off shortly after. Too much effort is put in by the administrator/drawer and never much is put in. I wouldn't start it honestly.

That's true. Maybe mixing with some other more attractive forms of gambling could be a solution.

the idea and structure looks interesting but the problem is the fact that there were plenty of bitcoin lottery sites (and few threads in this section too in the past to manually do lotteries) and as far as I know those existing barely had any activity.

0.001 or 0.0001 would be good? That way people can buy several tickets without spending too much money.

0.005-0.01 sounds more reasonable in my opinion. You'll need tons of tickets to reach a 5 btc prizepot with tickets costing 0.0001 only

The ticket price should be at least 0.01BTC so that we could at least reach 1BTC. I don't expect thousands to join this lottery so the ticket price should be kept above 0.01BTC.

The prize pool would be funded by myself initially, not ticket buyers. Thus the price per ticket can be lower than 0.01BTC.

Honestly I didn't like lotteries very much so I'm not interested in purchasing a ticket, but I think Bitcoin lotteries might be nice because it can be all based on blockchain, so to ensure fairness and validity.

I'd rather go for the 0.001 BTC ticket price. You could get a lot of people to buy tickets.

Most people wouldn't think twice about buying a ticket since it isn't a lot of money.

0.01 could be around two meals where I come from. I wouldn't really trade that for a very small chance at winning a lottery.
