Title: Bitcoin in-FUN-graphic
Post by: Mushroomized on July 03, 2012, 02:29:57 AM
Get it, like inFOgraphic?  ??? a pun of this level might be too advanced.
[it's big]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/36814103/infographic.png (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/36814103/infographic.png)

I made this after agreeing to work with "R-" https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=78931.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=78931.0) who turned out to be a pain to work with and in the end, just decided to cut off communication. So regardless of if he is going to pay me the 33-53 btc he promised after working to making this better [edit: he pmed me and said he would now]over a month or so, I would like you guys to use it, send it to buddies to checkout, etc! I really think that it would work great if you would separate it into parts, or just use it as a basic bitcoin promo.

I don't know about licensing or anything like that (don't really care either) so feel free to do whatever with it. Just don't sell it or something as your own- or edit the donation address on there (I need soda money) AKA NON COMMERCIAL USE.

If you have any suggestions let me know! Let's work together to make a good infographic

I think that graphic is really great. The price timeline seems to point out some more notable values. The last date on there is too old 10 days short of a year. Of course time will always be running but the last date should be from "today's" date with the current price. Maybe put june 20th "averaging $5.50 for 3 months straight" or something similar.

Yeah, I might make a bigger timeline soon...

Yeah, I liked!

Just some minor issues:

I couldn't read the black text over a dark grey background ("and feels like an" and "where you have"), the letter could be light grey.

And the generation curve (EaseInEaseOut, Bezier or Hermite) is slightly different (Bitcoin is EaseOut):

Nevertheless, cool graphic!

Thanks man! I'll post an updated version later, after I get some more feedback. I appreciate it.

I was going to mention the generation chart. Seems I actually did mention it.

Where did you get the $39.91 peak?

Your conclusion is correct.

What was the highest point then? I was just looking off the wiki for some moments in bitcoin history. Thanks for the input

I was certain that was intentional to make the 'online bank' and 'full control' stand out that much more, and found it pretty cool if so.

My only critique would be to slide the years 2010 and 2011 over to the right a bit more as to make certain readers recognize the June $39 something price was not this years June.

That chart makes it look like it didn't break $32 on gox. I'm sure it did elsewhere, but I don't know what should count really, not that it is super important, $39 is just a lot more than I usually hear as the figure.

I think it is wrong to advertize Bitcoin as being anonymous. It provides more privacy than most other electronic forms of payment, but certainly less than cash.

With the subtitle "become your own bank", maybe you're looking for "independent" rather than anonymous?

A couple of minor problems:

* "Transaction fees as small as five tenthousandths of a bitcoin" is completely meaningless to someone who doesn't know what a bitcoin is or how much it's worth.
* The official bitcoin client won't run on any Macintosh that was produced while Apple still had its stupid rainbow logo.

NO offense. It's very painful inforgraphic. Let say it's not very easy on the eye.

I think that the only part a little hard to follow is the very beginning. After that it gets quite simple and good.

Typo: Genisis -> Genesis

"From Canada" should probably be a different color. When all the surrounding text is white on black or white on gray, it's hard to see the gray on black. That section could probably use some restructuring too. It's a little difficult to tell which order to read things in.

Still need to fix the generation rate. If that is fixed I'll share the image.

Nice update! I agree that the generation chart probably should be changed, though. Difficulty retargeting keeps blocks generating at the same rate, and the only times when generation slows down are when block rewards are halved.
