Title: USB Miners and asics Post by: mintminty59 on January 03, 2015, 12:55:42 PM Hello everyone please excuse me if this is in the wrong section and please move if required. A friend of mine , has managed to get plans and firmware to modify antminers to mine scrypt based coin by changing the voltage and loading new firmware onto the device.
Does anyone know if there is some truth in this, and could someone point me in the right direction to get these plans. As I am an electronics engineer I might be able to load new algo into these devices. It's not about firmware or etc; it's about the hardware directly. You can't make the asic mine scrypt algo if it's designed to mine sha algo. But there was dual miners like that; http://hash-master.com/single-gridseed-dual-miner-no-accessories-scrypt-and-sha-miner-350-450kh-s/ he may have modified them. edit: those are the usb stick ones; http://www.dualminer.com/DualMiner-USB-2_p_18.html Title: Re: USB Miners and asics Post by: mintminty59 on January 03, 2015, 01:01:48 PM Long defunct using USB miners I believe Not if you can make the mods I said about. I tend to focus on new altcoins using different algo which tend to be GPU related but there way to expensive at the moment to justify there cost so I am looking at alternatives. Thats not strictly true , you can reprogram asic to do the task at hand. An Asic is a huge bunch of logic gates software controled there is no reason why you can not program them to perform a new algorythm Title: Re: USB Miners and asics Post by: cakir on January 03, 2015, 01:35:28 PM Long defunct using USB miners I believe Not if you can make the mods I said about. There's difference between microprocessor/micro controller etc and ASICs. you can program microprocessors etc for different purposes, But when you build an ASIC you can not change it's functionality. If I put this in a basic language; if you build an asic for "sum (a, b)"; you can't expect it to "multiply (a,b)". I got the 2 confused, well if that is the case my friend as it where was spinning me a bit of a yarn then Title: Re: USB Miners and asics Post by: Bananana on January 03, 2015, 02:43:07 PM Hello everyone please excuse me if this is in the wrong section and please move if required. Its not impossible but its really hard, you might as well buy those scrypt miners that is in the market and learn from it and make your own scrypt miner. Those dual miners can mine both sha and scrypt; probably disabled sha mining and only mining scrypt or something.
