Yeah, one time someone found an exploit where he embed javascript (I think) code into a picture which he used for his avatar, and the javascript took the forum down. Or at least it used to be like that because you couldn't change avatars.. not sure if that's still a thing

Those fields accept only certain number of characters and as you said, BB Codes don't work.
