Title: Could someone help teaching me how to short
Post by: Btcnoobbear on January 05, 2015, 09:07:33 PM
Hi guys,

I just back from a weed grower. That guy said shorting Bitcoin can bring me a great fortune and he is doing it now. I am no IT expert, could some people teach me how to open an account and how to do the shorting thing? I am willing to learn, especially when I am high and cool.

I have a few grands and could someone calculate how much I will earn if this god damn thing goes to zero? 5 times or 20 times?

Thanks,
Martin

I would watch out who you talk to here. I could probably teach you a bit of stuff. Lots of members who will email you telling you that they can do it for you, but they'll just take your money.

If you are shorting, you can only make the amount you short.  It sounds like you want to do a leveraged short, which if you compound it can pay you an outrageous amount if BTC goes to 0.

If you are serious and this is something you want to do, I'd be happy to teach you all you need to know for a nice little fee.  However, I will warn you there is probably a 90% chance you'll lose all your money gambling with leverage in the currency market.

Exactly. I would recommend instead that he do oil. Shorting oil right now brings in a shitload too. Soon enough, there is going to be longs.

Lol, drug dealers are also shorting the market with illegal money. The bear army is magnificent.

how to short:

1. borrow something

goal:  try to buy it back at a lower price to return to the lender.

LOL. This has to be a parody account starting this thread. If not, a good sign that the bottom will be in before long.

Cost of production is way below current market for a while now. If ASIC development cycle is any guide, 9-12 months is the period needed to get rid of excess capacity unless manufacturers think they can out-smart the market by keeping up production level.

Showing up here and asking this you are basically asking to get hurt. If you trade in this storm as a beginner, you will likely loose most of your Bitcoin. The smart thing to do now is to buy more and hold half, invest the rest into other projects that will multiply your BTC. Maybe the only way you will make %50 a year from now.

Could someone help teaching me how to short ..

====

You could use a 'binary options' broker ..
You can 'bet' that BTC will be higher or lower than
a given price ( strike price ) for a given period of time ( duration )
Your 'risk' is limited to the cost of the option ..
And you are assuming counterparty risk with the broker you use ..
( They may not give your BTC back if you 'win' )

Caveot Emptor ..

Triff ..

How much does the price have to move before you make money going short or long with leverage? 4%?

Shorting Bitcoin can also result in you losing the money that you currently have. Look at Bitcoin's price trend over the last 6 months and think can it go lower? If you blindly short, you might lose quite a bit.

Depends on fees & leverage. But with 10x leverage and standard fees you will probaly be at 20-30% profit
( with 4% change)
Good luck and dont get wiped out coz if its going down its gonna go down real quick
