Post by: Ninjahitoko on January 06, 2015, 10:56:39 PM
Do you guys have any idea how much an escrow agent makes?
Peace!

About 1% of the total transaction.  Or less.

Yeah about 1% normally so very reasonable I think. Maybe less for a big amount.

Why? If you're getting into escrow here to make money you're doing it for all the wrong reasons. Most escrows do it for free but get small tips every now and again. It's more about helping the community than making a living off of it.

I agree, escrows are the backbone of the BTC community, without them I think people would be getting ripped off all over the place (more than usual with all the current scams). Find one you can trust with a lot of good feedback spanning a length of time and you will feel happy you did it that way instead of trying to save a few Satoshi and losing a few BTC  :o If they do it for free even better but I feel a tip is always greeted with kindness.

But how do new aspiring escorwers start?
If people only hire people with lots of good feedback.. how do people start from scratch?

I'm not too sure about that one, maybe they do it within their local community at first (maybe family or friends) and then trust is built up which spans a wider area. I would maybe contact the established escrows on here and ask how they started out, you will probably find this exercise very informative.

How does anyone start anything? Slowly and over time. You start small doing trades with others and being an active member of the community and you will slowly gain feedback and people's trust and that is what's key. People will then not need to use an escrow when dealing with you and at some point may even ask you to escrow one of their deals. After that you can then maybe consider starting your own escrow service but this takes time.

Do small trades and always go first. Some people will still give you positive reputation for BTC risked for who knows what reason. Once you have some green numbers under your name, make a free escrow with tips thread and don't forget your PGP key so you look like you know what you're doing.

I can probably identify several members who are doing this.
