Title: Reaper for litecoin mining
Post by: smoothie on July 06, 2012, 07:13:07 PM
Okay I'm going through the source for litecoin mining with reaper.

It doesn't sound like anyone is working on optimizing/adding different architectures/etc to this code and releasing it publicly.

I'll work on it then...

Any input or community help is welcome.

It's time to getterdun!

 ;D ;D ;D

Sure, get it working for me?

Here are my config files.

Are you running the 79XX cards?

Two 5850's.

I'm pretty sure someone here on the forum has gotten 5850's to run.

Also I'm trying to better reaper and to get it to possibly do better hashing on the newer sock 79XX cards.

That would be awesome.  I'm running it fine with 3 5850's, but for some reason I can't get it to work with a 5870.  My 6850 is flakey too.  It works for a bit then gets server errors.

There doesn't seem to be any good optimization options with it either.  When I'm mining bitcoins and add +10 to the clock I usually get an additional 5mhash on the 5850's.  Playing with numbers doesn't seem to work with reaper.  It just crashes if too low or too high.  Not much of a difference between 700 clock and memory or 850 clock/memory.

Hell just good documentation/tutorials for reaper would be a plus.  If you have the ability to upgrade reaper, make sure you post a LTC donation address.  I'm sure many others on here would appreciate the help, and hopefully give you a bit of the wealth for your work too.

Is there any simple solutions for mining litecoin with CPU and GPU on Linux at the same time? If none, I would like to donation for one. :)

Hardware comparison:

My 5870 is getting ~ 385 k/hash

My 3x6970 is getting ~ 697 k/hash or ~ 232.3 each

Yet, my 6970's can get ~440 m/hash with bitcoins while my 5870 can get ~460

Seems my 6970s are underperforming comparatively with reaper.  I've tried various worksizes and aggression settings and this seems to be the best I can get.

The hardware wiki should be updated with who ever has added their cards to it, with their OS and if 32/64 bit.

https://github.com/coblee/litecoin/wiki/Mining-hardware-comparison#wiki-ATI_AMD_GPUs

When I added my cards to it, I added also the OS.

Is there any recent git repo with reaper in it? Or do we need to put one up?

:) yup, and now if we all can chip in and add to it, it'll be great.

Just register at github for a free account. Then edit the page.

Perhaps you could also help me resolve an error that's stopping me form using reaper to gpu mine LTC.

Edit:Got the image showing now (I think).Don't use image bay as their IMg code is useless for this board.

Since none of the links seem to work,I get a App crash followed by a Ntdll.dll named as the fault module name. It's that kind of dialogue box where the app just freezes and then offers to send a report to microsoft to resolve the issue.

Thanks,I'll try that out.Since it's tied to this app,I'll need to re download it then run it again. Another issue is when it takes more than 2 mins to compile for my MBPs GPU (Nvidia GT330M).I'm using win 7 via bootcamp atm

Update-The newest version of the app has eliminated this issue (the freezing anyway) as I didn't realise I was running an outdated version. The compiling issue still remains though if you defer from default settings and mine only litecoin instead of bitcoin, litecoin and solidcoin in the reaper.config file. I do want litecoin to be mined so I'm hoping it'll work.

Are you running any cpu or hdd intensive application? Might be bogging down the compilling.

Also, don't forget to delete the .bin files after recompiling. in fact, close the cmd window, delete the .bin files and rerun reaper.

Not running any CPU/HDD intensive app.I've closed cmd, deleted the .bin files and am rerunning reaper.Still taking its time for compiling.using the latest version of reaper (I think v13 beta 4). I may have to give up on that silly idea of mining LTC with GPU in the first place.Things worked fine (when it was bitcoin, litecoin and solidcoin in the reaper.config file for protocol order)

What are the system specs of your pc that this reaper is being ran on?
It's being run on an MBP running win 7.CPU is a core i7 620M
8GB RAM
500GB HDD
GPU-Nvidia GeForce GT330M

My other PC is elsewhere for now so I can't get to it (in a different location)

Thats ok.You did your best.I'm calling it a day for now until I can get access to my other PC as that usually works with any mining app and has a decent GPU in it (HD6950).

No luck on my MBP.When I get access to my main PC,I'll reply again as it's in a different location and I only go when I have a job that needs doing as well as checking in on my main PC/mining rig.Advice is try to stick to the defaults with reaper as it's not fully mature software and change just the mining pool options.

Reaper shows two different hashrates

one at the beginning one at the end of the line before a count of seconds

what are these? is the left one the current and the right one the approx in last X amount of time or something?

From here: http://wiki.solidcoin.info/wiki/Reaper#Download (http://wiki.solidcoin.info/wiki/Reaper#Download)

I'm using the newest version: v13 beta 4.

Someone should really make the source/downloads available somewhere else ... the solidcoin/microcash sites are all but dead and the latest postings are several people who seem to have been in the crowd for quite some time wondering where everyone went....  so not sure how much longer for the world this will be available for litecoin/bitcoin miners to use as an option for mining.
