Title: Single Account, Multiple Computer Logins Question
Post by: Mburd on May 21, 2011, 05:49:42 AM
I am sorry if I missed the answer to my question, but I did try to find an answer. Can you login to your Bitcoin account on multiple computers to generate your coin, or do you have to use a different account for each?

Either way, I would like to pool my money together, using only computers on my home network. It seems it would just be easier if I could just login multiple times.

Thank you in advance for your replies,

Bitcoin doesn't really use a concept of "accounts" in the sense of having some kind of user credentials that you use to log in. Instead, there's the concept of a "wallet". A wallet is simply a file (wallet.dat) on your computer. Where it's stored depends on your operating system. On Windows, it's in "%appdata%\Bitcoin" by default.

To use the same "account" (or, really, to use the same wallet) on another computer, you'd have to copy the wallet.dat file from one computer to another.

You could also just keep separate wallets on separate computers, and just transfer bitcoins from one wallet to another through the network.

I think in theory you can, if you spend some BTC on one, the others should update automatically. I'll have to test that to see what happens.  ;D

You can run CPU mining clients without running the bitcoin client, if that's your question.
