Title: The ability to tag users in your post?
Post by: Superhitech on January 11, 2015, 07:16:22 AM
Would it be a good idea to be able to tag users in a post? For example, if someone typed @Superhitech, I would get an automated PM from a forum bot saying "Superhitech, you have been tagged in post so and so, link." This forum isn't Twitter, but I think it would be a good idea. Comments?

It has been brought up/requested before but it is open to abuse and people spamming it etc which would get annoying pretty quickly. Part of me would be interested in seeing the posts I was mentioned in but I don't know how workable it would be or if the positives outweigh the negatives.

I think there is notifocations in new forum. , so it wouldn't be hard. I don't really want to tag people but it would be great if we can tag users in the OP especially in scam accusation.

Perhaps there could be a feature to turn it off, so you don't get a PM whenever someone tags you.

It would be a good feature if there is an added option to turn it off/on as per user's preference. Like if someone "quotes" you get a little notification about it. Maybe they'll add it in the new software.

I support this idea, a lot. Sometimes I see a topic that I know someone else wants to read and I would love to get a notification is someone quotes my post. I get that some people would find it annoying so an option to turn it off would be a must.

But what about those who would like the notifications but not people abusing it? I think a lot of people would sadly troll it with spam. Maybe restricting it from newbs or certain membergroups would be a good idea or to block notifications from certain people though this may be complicating the process.

I like this idea and wants to know when someone mentions my name. This will be abused and I will  end up switching it off. There is not much point add this feature if everyone disables it.

I totally support your idea mate ;D couldn't agree more , that's  a nice feature that should be added to the forums . I see it a lot on MyBB forums software and I guess it shouldn't be that hard to do for the One million dollar project , would it ;D

Yeah, there could be a feature to block notifications from certain people, like the ignore feature, except the ignore would only be for PM notifications. I think the notifications shouldn't be for whenever someone quotes your post, I think you should be only notified if someone puts an @ in front of your username such as @Superhitech.

I came here to recommend this as well. Having some way to highlight/tag/notify a user that you've replied/quoted them is necessary.

A notification? How? Like a banner on top of the screen when you log in? I agree, it can fill your inbox.
