Title: what kind of gambling site do you feel the community is missing?
Post by: demonz on January 11, 2015, 12:20:40 PM
I know there are tons of dice sites. I have a good amount of programming skills and I'm fiending to start a new project.

Would anyone be interested in a 1v1 billiards game (probably 8 ball, maybe 9) with btc bets? Or a holdem or blackjack site?

Any suggestions would be awesome  8)

I would probably play some tien len or mahjong

Software has to be probably fair though for me to even consider it

Also i feel like the bitcoin poker market hasn't been fully cracked yet. All the sites have their flaws

there are plenty of blackjack sites and lots of poker sites.

Maybe some other card games? Not sure if enough people would be interested though

Well, billiard is not gambling, it is a 100% skillbased which makes it based on having whales that always lose and sharks that always win. The cool thing about gambling is that EVERYONE can win, in billiard you would even have to train if you play for money which i think is stupid. The cool thing about "pure" gambling like dicing or roulette or slots is the fact that you do not need skill to win

Well the gambling world is missing a site where a user can actually win :)

On a serious note:

It might be rather hard to do but maybe something skill based.

What flaws do they have specifically?

Well I guess I meant the players "gamble" on their game of skill. But this would prove difficult to moderate fairly if people try to cheat/use rulers/etc.  Good points.

I would really like chess as long as it can be against humans and not robots. I think we have most of the other games already.

Chess would be a great idea. Would be easy to make 1v1 matches and tournies. Only issue is that you would always have to wait for someone else to join the game to play and if person had to leave early there would have to be some penalties.

I'd love to play Tien Len for bitcoin.  However provably fair is an incredibly hard feature to implement with it.

I don't think it has to be all that hard.  I can envision something like this happening within the next month or two ;)

A sportsbook like bitbook.biz

There are a couple decent BTC books but bitbook.biz blew them all away in every aspect. Never thought it would be so hard to compete with that.

Unfortunately, those wouldn't be the only problems with chess, and other similar games - particularly as money would be involved. As sherbyspark alluded to, bots would be a bigger issue, as they provide a huge advantage, and their use, in one form or another, is virtually impossible to prevent.

I was thinking of adding chess or battle ship type of game to my site (see my signature).

And yes, a selfpromo, but seriously, my site is all about users winning! I only take a small fee from the winnings, but rest goes between users. And as I've mentioned previously, I was thinking of adding a chess type of game too, although it's not really related to the site. I will add "Battle Ship" type of game though.

Also, reason I haven't added chess yet is because anyone can cheat online with the moves. You can't do that with battle ship.

indeed.  Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think there's a traditional Bitcoin Racebook with win/place/show, exactas, trifectas, etc.

Also, reason I haven't added chess yet is because anyone can cheat online with the moves. You can't do that with battle ship.

I'd think you can do that even with Battleship - it's just that the bot would be somewhat less effective, by virtue of the position of the enemy pieces not being known at the start. But such a bot would still tend to make the optimal move each turn, allowing its user to win a larger percentage of games than you'd usually expect. It reminds me of the recent news about the poker bot Cepheus (http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/speaking-of-science/wp/2015/01/08/meet-cepheus-the-virtually-unbeatable-poker-playing-computer (http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/speaking-of-science/wp/2015/01/08/meet-cepheus-the-virtually-unbeatable-poker-playing-computer)).

As for Chess, and given the popular demand, you could still include it, while placing a warning about the possibility of cheaters using bots during the game. I'm not sure most people would be willing to bet in that scenario, but at least it would attract more users to the site, even if just for playing for fun, or among friends.

Good idea. I'd be happy to setup a site for trading and exchanging cards...and bitcoins...  ::)

Mid term bet exchange for any possible bet. I.e. one guy posts a bet and other guys can accept the bet or not. The site acts as a middle-man and judge. Dunno, perhaps extremely difficult to judge some bets if all bets are allowed...  :-\

gonna bump this because i think if you make it pretty enough, it can have a small, BUT long term return

also a good RPG with some betting options to get extra equipment, skills, etc. may be a good go. Seen so far a couple of ideas (e.g., based on game of thrones series), but they were still not good enough. It requires however substantial preparation of the story.

Dragon's Tale is a RPG with BTC but not really anything with battling or equipment.

I still haven't played it, but from the descriptions I've read so far, as well as from what I've seen of others' comments, I'd say Dragon's Tale is just a glorified casino; not so much an RPG, unfortunately.

But it could be interesting to play an RPG where you could use BTC to pay for items and equipment, and withdraw any winnings made during the game, be it from selling things, killing mobs, killing other players, or whatever. :)
