Title: How the "One Million Dollar" forum looks like ?
Post by: Madness on January 11, 2015, 07:59:10 PM
Hi there,

I was wondering how the one dollar forum software will looks like to be honest . I'am not sure if there was any screenshots posted before or not but I can seem to find any . but logically a 1m dollar project should have some professional "Web Designers" to do this job .
I just hope it won't be something like this Simple machines forum which is the basic theme I guess .

btw , project still ON and all should be available like announced ? the forum will be updated on bitcointalk.org next month ?

Hi there,

It will look like One Million Dollars. It's not going to look like this forum but will have all of its features plus more.

Yes, the project is still on and a public beta should be expected soon. In my opinion it has a pretty slick design.

What , do you mean tjos one ? It's honestly dosen't look like a 10k forum at all . Simple machines forum is basically not known between MyBB and vBulletin and the other softwares . also not professionally made in my opinion . Beside this forum don't even have a theme and not well designed . It's too BASIC . more then it should be

True but Basic is good and I really like it. ::) When new forum software comes, it may take some time to become familiar with it.

It is old. It is from December. I think a lot of changes have been made after that.

I checked in about Dec 2014 and they said it's launching in Feb max.

I really like the design of the old version though.

Kind of curious since I haven't seen an update log for when the estimated public beta release is set for, and it's been a while since January and we are now into March, so wondering what the design looks like at present ^^.

The majority of the issues now are with legacy data import and it's talking a long time to get everything right.

Why would be a challenge for facebook? Epochtalk "is" a forum software , facebook is a social network. They are two different things. I don't know when it will be released, but maybe enter the end of march.

Purpose of both is the same. Communication. Now, if Epochtalk have some functionality related to bitcoin that allows people to transact money along with communication then it would have an added advantage over FB.

If you wonder how it looks like, you may install it on localhost and then see.
As far as I see, it's quite clean and looks good. I'm pretty sure when it's completely released; I'll create a forum with it.

I've tried to install the forum software on a vps but I have failed. It seems " I have not the permission" or something like that. Can you please tell me how did you do that? Thanks.

So you are telling water and food are same as the purpose is same. You are missing the points:

Facebook = Made for IM.
Epochtalk = Forum.

Yes, with both, you are able to communicate but you want to look "what is is for".

If you wonder how it looks like, you may install it on localhost and then see.

It will be little hard.

As far as I see, it's quite clean and looks good.

Yes, it is. For the first few hours/days, it will be hard but you will get used to it and then hopefully, you will like it.

I'm pretty sure when it's completely released; I'll create a forum with it.

Eager to see both! ;)

If you follow the written Installiation than of course it says you don't have permission. https://github.com/epochtalk/epochtalk#installation
First step: "$ git clone git@github.com:epochtalk/frontend.git"
There's no frontend.git to clone, or it's not public yet.

I've downloaded the source code and tried to install it, but it's not packed properly (that's what npm says).
I couldn't manage to install it this time, Also I've deleted the old version (it was on VM) :(

But does building a new forum software really cost that much money?
I mean, not to offend anyone but this is some serious money getting spend on some new forum.

And, it will never be a challenge for Facebook, as you said, forum and social media are differend things.
