Title: Safe Buys and Scams
Post by: ViciousPlayer on January 11, 2015, 11:22:53 PM
What would you consider to be safe buys in altcoins for the time being and maybe holding for the next 6-12 months?

Which coins do you consider to be scams and to avoid at all costs?

They only safe buy I can see are concours standard classic cars, and pretty much anything with 2 wheels from the 1980's.

For crypto: there are no safe buys. Really. Everything is very much up in the air right now....

DigiByte seems to be a fairly good investment at the moment. It's over a year old and has a very talented dev/team working on it/  THere can also be a fair amount made just trading it :D

I am starting to agree. It is hard to find a competent, but trustworthy developer for most coins. I know that there are certain things to look out for like premines and ICOs, but then there are some that the devs reveal a lot about themselves. I heard about CryptoAsian, you think this would be enough for identifying the devs and adding some extra credibility?

Claiming your free CLAM is risk free and a good way to make some serious $$ if you had Bitcoin, Litecoin or Dogecoin on May 12th 2014!

The ones to avoid are so numerous that I would say at least 85% of all the ones in existence. Some of the specific ones -but by no means the only ones- are in my THE WALL OF SHAME.

There's a way to avoid scams for sure: Get in on those that cost you absolutely nothing, not a penny. No danger of being scammed, none whatsoever. Do they exists? Of course! My personal recommendation is Mangocoinz.

It is a game changer. And costs you nothing at all to participate in the project. Look it up.

SendChat has a legit project going on, they are currently busy with their ICO for their coin SendCoin. All verified by BlockTrust including their team members, i can say, finally, a project that does not have a chance to be a shit scamcoin like Paycoin and many more.

I prefer BitSwift.

100% legit as is dev and team (the dev even posted his personal/LinkedIn info!).

Coin has major stuff in the works and is already working as a real company (in Canada I think it is).  The guy has real world usage on tap and I'm sure more coming.

Re. price, sure it had some play in it like any coin (outside control) but that seems done.  Since then it's been super stable and seems to have holders/"investors" that are SOLID holders and not dumping anything, it'll go up soon enough.  :)

No coins are safe especially for that length of time, but people are just going to suggest you the coins they are holding here. Why not just put your money in bitcoin as lets face it it's the only coin that is likely to go places.

buy some established coins like ppc,nxt etc... they've been here for a long time now.just do your own research before buying any coin.

Any others to watch out for like LXC and AeroME?

A safe coin to buy is the one that has high volume and lots of bidders.  So just in case you want to let it go, you have someone who's willing to buy it from you.  The opposite is what makes it the most difficult market to trade.

So stay away from coins with low volume and low on the bid side.

And if you fancy yourself as an "investor", take your pick.  Chances are it's a shitcoin anyway.

one simple rule: follow coins with a serious project behind and dedicated team willing to push boundaries (and keep market interesting and alive)

my suggestions: nxt, dash, stellar, eutherum, maidsafe and i would say monero but both devs and part of community are so asshole that i would never invest 1 cent on them but the cryptonote tech is actually interesting
