Well, I'm a proud owner of 280x and I must say: that thing does wonders. It was a dream come true when I bought it

I suggest you search online for a graphic card benchmarking website. It will have data of various graphic cards and how well they perform compared to each other. Some of them will also give a FPS estimate for a variety of games. That way, you can tell which graphic card will be better for the games you want to play.

I wouldn't even go crossfire. I have a single R280 and am yet to find a game that doesn't run on high settings. Dual cards will only cost more and need more power. If you want something really powerful get a single R290x

I'd suggest just getting a 290x, but I have been out of the computer hardware stuff for some time, don't even know what they are making these days.

Meh. I buy a new laptop every 4 years, pass the old one on to whoever needs it. If it plays MECC games, I like it.

I have a pair of watercooled 290s, and they play most things on the best settings or very close to it at 1440p. The stock cooler on the 290 and 290x is almost unusable in an office environment though, unless you're deaf from running SP20s or S5s.

Reminds me, I need a new computer, want to sell all these old ones and just buy something simple and portable. No more desktop bull crap.

Laptops are even more noisy than desktops, break easily and overheat. I prefer my desktop ;)

Desktop is easier to upgrade components
