Title: comcast IP question Post by: WEB slicer on January 12, 2015, 06:56:46 PM i need to change my IP. unplugging the modem for a few hours doesn't seem to work any more. IPconfig/release/renew doesn't work either. i hear plugging the modem in to another computer will change the IP. but when i plug the modem back in to my main computer will it be another new IP or the original IP? debating buying a chromebook just to be able to change my IP. is there a better way?

http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Basic-Internet-Connectivity-And/IP-Address-static-or-dynamic/td-p/1871801 if its static or business you need to get them to change it on there end if its dynamic the dissconect from it for an hour (fully unplug everything from the connection point) and wait when you plug back in and turn the router on it should give you a new ip. if it dosnt work type you ip into a few ip tool on google some will tell you if its dynamic or static Title: Re: comcast IP question Post by: Jamie_Boulder on June 21, 2015, 10:56:37 AM Some companies assign the IP to a mac address, if you can figure out how to change the mac address of your modem that may be a method (yes buying a new one will work but this is costly), in some cases even your computer (one that's directly plugged into the modem/router).
Otherwise you just have to call them up unfortunately. Title: Re: comcast IP question Post by: hmblm1245 on June 22, 2015, 03:19:30 AM Sometimes if you report a connection failure (unplug your modem) call in and say you cannot connect they may switch you to another dhcp scope on a different router...maybe. i have had this happen when things got messy with their DNS not updating one time on one of their edge routers.

Use VPN Title: Re: comcast IP question Post by: TECSHARE on June 22, 2015, 06:19:46 AM I am in Chicagoland as well, and I noticed that you used to be able to do this now you can't for some reason. I personally just got a VPN, but you could potentially change it by either leaving it unplugged without power for a while, or calling and using the automated system to reset your router.
