Title: Mining on Android using Tablet - possible or not?
Post by: ummas on July 11, 2012, 08:35:05 PM
Is it possible to mine  on FPGA using android on Tablet?
Can get one(USB, cortex 9 1GHz) for 5BTC - cheep as hell - 7" i think.
Is there any miner for android or any other sollution?
I think it`s possible, after linux ARM installation. Still, android, it`s "just" linux ;)

It would probably be dead slow. Something like 1mhash/s.

Look at how slow CPUs are, then think what a tablet would do.

Tbh, you'd probably spend more money recharging then tablet in one day, then the money you generate from it in 5 years.

I think the op is talking about using one to run some fpgas.. kinda like using a router with cgminer to run your fpga farm.

Sure, there's no real reason why not. Have fun porting the software and report back in the Software section.

I'm also curious about this as I'm aiming to reduce power consumption to the bare minimum it will go for the getwork (networking) tasks (similar to using the Raspberry Pi fetching tasks to mine which will then be mined by the FPGA/ASIC plugged into the raspberry Pi/whatever machine you use really).

I'd like the idea of using a spare cheap (maybe £80) phone running android to fetch tasks from the net and then getting the FPGAs to mine BTC for you, this way you can really reduce the power use of your mining operation.

Has anyone actually managed to create a miner for android yet?

If you wont to use phone for mining, it need to be powered elswere than through usb port.
For now, i`m going to stay with old VIA C7 cpu and 4GB USB pendrive - ~22W
But running miner on android - nice idea.
