Title: Gridseed Miner is Not Playing Nice - and I don't know what to do next ????
Post by: RanduCandu on January 17, 2015, 11:48:03 PM
Hi;

My son and I got into Bitcoin mining as a little technical project.  We are having fun - and (as usual) - I wanted to get the whole rig we are using to work perfectly.  So far, the answer has eluded me - so I am posting this for some help ...

We have 6 Gridseed miners (Scrypt only mode enabled) and one larger 5Mh scrypt miner (which is working fine).  I am running them on a Mac, BFGMiner ver 5.0.0 and have come a long way sef-helping myself.

One of the Gridseed miners consistently fails to hash.  No RED light. Ever.  I have tried various cables / USB cables, moving it around with other Gridseed that are working - so I am pretty sure the equipment / HUB / cables / PSU and software is fine.

Here is a copy/paste from BFGMiner:
 GSD 5:       | 353.6/351.2/265.9kh/s | A:  39 R: 1+0(.70%) HW:0/none
 GSD 6:       | 257.1/275.3/  0.0kh/s | A:   0 R: 0+0(none) HW:0/none
 GSD 7:       | 353.6/351.2/250.0kh/s | A:  46 R: 1+0(.74%) HW:0/none

The last figure (Effective Average) according to some detailed messages in forums I have visited NEVER goes above 0.0 for this miner.  No red light, no hashing????

I have rebooted several time, sometimes the Gridseed number changes on the BFGMiner page - but when I look at the Gridseeds, I can tell it is the one without a red flashing hashing light that is at fault.

What can I do?  Or is this hashing and I am getting a false negative?

Did you try CPUminer for gridseed, just to check if it works better? Seems there is a version for Mac

What PSU are you using? Did you unplug and plug the PSU again? Sometimes that was helpful when having trouble with them. Not sure if the last value is important, as far as I remember the 2nd value is more important, but might be wrong. What hashrate does the pool show?

probably defective, i had one with similar issue, try to remove the power and re-enable it, or the usb, same thing, remove and re-attach it

Thanks.
Tried reconnecting it numerous times and recycling the power.  Green light flashes, but no red light and no hashing results in the miner app.  Yes, I think it is toast.  Too bad.  Are these fixable - or should I recycle it?

not fixable so eays, better to recycle it, or return it if you can
