How is memorizing what a "bit" is easier than memorizing what a mBTC is? Because the majority of people in the world are already used to using 1 "dollar" = 100 "cent", 1 "pound" = 100 "penny", 1 "peso" = 100 "centavo", 1 "rupee" = 100 "paise", etc, in dealing with their own local fiat currencies.
