How Facebook May Secretly Foil Your Activist Plans

http://linkis.com/filmsforaction.org/yL3ma (http://linkis.com/filmsforaction.org/yL3ma)

<<  In recent years, Facebook has become an unexpectedly crucial tool for activism. The social media platform allows activists to efficiently connect and communicate with one another in order to arrange meetings, protests and boycotts. Unfortunately, activists who once found that Facebook helped make organizing easier are now encountering obstacles – and the resistance is coming from Facebook itself.

With little explanation, Facebook has been disabling pages related to activism. In some cases, administrators who set up the pages are no longer able to add updates. In others, the pages are being deleted entirely. Understandably, activists are frustrated when a network of 10,000 like-minded individuals is suddenly erased, leaving no way to reconnect with the group. >>

Surprise, surprise... :).

There are many rumors around about connections between FB and certain agencies in the US. Even if 99% of those accusations and conspiracy theories are bullshit that 1% can be more than enough to don't trust FB

Well Facebook is just another corporation after all. The world is getting scarier and crazier by the minute.

No company is immune from government pressure.
We would be foolish to think otherwise.

Indeed and one day an encrypted social network will emerge
Then we can have some fun legal and court cases to ban their existence  ;)

Sadly, a lot of people both anarchists and not use Facebook for "activism," whether that be making connections, organizing, updates, etc.

It's precisely because of stuff like this that we don't, social media networks are largely nothing more than databases that are used by corporations for spying, people post all their personal information on their without a second thought.

Enter.... a decentralized social network.
The opportunity seems ripe.  :)

Corporations will do anything to save their butts so throwing you under the bus shouldn't be a surprise.
