Title: The Best Coin To Purchase For a 1+ year hold?
Post by: Dr. Coin on January 20, 2015, 03:55:26 PM
In your opinion, what is the best coin to seriously invest in long term?

(example: DOGE, DRK, XRP, Ethereum, BC, etc...)

Now that's a toughie...I'd have to suggest DOGE, because its community is unkillable. The remarks about it being a "cult" just shows you its staying power and grit.

But whatever coin you pick...I seriously suggest a monthly dollar-cost-averaging plan. It's the only way you can reasonably cope with price volatility.

Yeah, I just do not know if DOGE will really rise in value...I just believe that while blockchain will continue to live, Bitcoin may not, and no one wants to miss the next wave of wealth distribution lol

hahaha I know, I have been having this dilemma for a very long time, but the community and acceptance is somewhat undeniable...

It is possible that in the long future, people will slowly forget about the meme, and the coin itself will prevail, then it will be just a funny story of how it got its name

Okay. I've got another one for you if you're more of a tech-head: Nxt. It's "the" Crypto 2.0 altcoin. Rapid innovations, huge development team, lots of services built on it. Not much in terms of revenue streams for these services, as yet, but if crypto takes off again Nxt will rise hugely.

The trouble is, you specified "one year" and Nxt may still be grinding away in its long-term trading range a year from now. If you're willing to lengthen your time horizon to (say) two or three years, Nxt is the way to go.

If there's any downside to Nxt, its the drawbacks of its tech-centered culture. They've put marketing and evangelizing on the back burner, it seems. There's nothing wrong with that, but it does imply that Nxt will take a long time before it really takes off.

That's one of the points I hinted at. It's kind-of funny seeing the crew around here repeat the mantra that "cryptocurrency is for use" and then turn around and sneer at the shibe community. If Dogecoin has one compelling feature, it's the fact that DOGE is already a "cryptocurrency for use."

I have been involved in cryptos for a while (you can see my twitter), I've ran my own trading group, worked with devs etc. I think the sentiment in the altcoin market is shot, so now I would like to not deal with all of the BS and focus on 3-4 coins that deserve my money for the long haul. NXT is super cool, so is NHZ, but NXT is bigger. I will consider it more.

And yes, I do not mean 1 year to the dot, 2 years is fine, even 3. I mean 1+ years

NXT!

Is at the moment the best price to buy (because Supernet will go online in the next days).... in a few weeks the price will take off.
And if the Cryptos will go, up one day again, so NXT will rise extremly.

My own opinion: 1NXT=1$ in up to 2 years (Now 1NXT=0,0128$)

If you can strike a private deal for some Ethers, that surely won't be too bad. As long as you keep your fingers away from Ethercoin. I would also start looking at Storj and Filecoin.

doge has done a lot more good than most cryptocurrencies out there. not bad for a 'meme' currency.

the beauty of NXT is it is anyone can pitch in in marketing the platform. the core devs just keep working on the code and other devs can build apps on top of it.  it's a good set up imo.  all the NXT core devs need to do is speed up transactions and it's perfect (almost).

i wish NXT was using a flavor of POW tho, like proof of capacity like what burstcoin is doing.  although i support a couple of POS projects, i still have my reservations regarding POS.

My bet is on AppleByte, launched on May 1, 2014.The digital currency supporting the arts.

A real user community, 11,200+ on Twitter & 11,300+ on FB.
Currently rated number 5, on CoinGecko in terms of user community size and support.

Through the Twitter tipping app, launched two months ago, over 280 artists have been tipped more than 85,000 AppleBytes by their fans.

For success longterm a coin must have a real, growing user community, not just traders on an exchange.

no volume in the market.  sorry.

i would like to point out for all newbie traders is never ever buy into a coin that has low volume.  when shit hits the fan, you wouldn't be able to get out without moving the price down drastically resulting in big losses.  pretty sure you would feel that you took it up the ass later on.   so be careful.

That's the perfect set-up for now. When Nxt's code is "mature", Nxt will be a professional marketer's dream crypto. Right now, because of the overhang of Mt. Gox et. al, there's really not much point in widespread evangelizing. Best to consolidate and quietly build, which is where Nxt is at right now.

But as I said, Nxt is going to take more than a year before ends up being a killer speculation. Myself, I'm thinking of a three-to-five year time horizon.

Please read up on monero, lots of drama and running of with funds sadly ;)

I say for max profit, don't laugh, DOGED, it's now valued @ 1 or 2 satoshi's, yet the dev and the tech is exellent. Truly anonymous. I'm going for that :)

Swiss Franc, backed by gold this currency means something

Otherwise perhaps Sterling, British government is intent on deficit reduction. Might even see some reduction in supply now

Both of these have made big gains so far this year and you can buy just about anything you want with them.

I would still say LTC, even though it has taken a bit of a beating lately - the general public want what they know and feel secure in, that's the most established coins like BTC & LTC (DOGE also, but it's not that established in time frame, but is in popularity and use).

I don't think that when things go mainstream that the majority of people will care about algorithms and all that, they'll just want functionality and ease of use.

just my thoughts :)

CANN buddy !

Don't forget the US law about weed, very very important factor for CANN success. ===> Banks are refusing cash from weed sells because it's not completly legal ======> Dispensers   N E E D   Cannabiscoins.
Because weed is not completly legal at a federal range, feds can shut down any "growfarm" they don't like for some random personnal reasons, this is very sad. =====> This is why D9 isn't giving anyone pictures about the weed growing, like everyone in this business in US.

Cann seems actually dead, but is in fact not at all. The Herbal Wellness Center is still using it in real world and there are pleeeeeeeeeeeeenty of events coming with a great future. Do like you want but i'm definetly in it ;)

None. Buy and hold long term is a losing strategy in crypto.

The coins in my sig  :D

Honestly though, a year is a looooooooong time in alts. You really can't look away for a year on any coin, random destructive shit can and will happen at the blink of an eye.

Just look for coins with marketcaps which are ridiculously lower than they should be for what they offer or will offer. For example, Geocoin has a marketcap right now around $20,000. You can buy 1% of the current supply for ~$200. This coin has already integrated GIS- you can put money in any location on earth and people can go and get it (check out geocoin.cash)- the dev is great, more tech is on the way, and there's an entirely new user base which this coin has the potential to tap into and bring into crypto (the geocaching community).  When you consider all the useless crap with market caps of $200,000 or even more, it's pretty safe to to say this coin deserves and will likely achieve a significantly higher market cap than it currently has.

NXT and Slimcoin.

NXT, because it's still in its development stage and has the potential to get a high adoption when a really stable wallet is deployed.
Slimcoin, because it's seriously undervalued and the first (and only) coin with the innovative Proof-of-burn algorithm. Proof-of-burn is a seriously interesting concept with many advantages, proposed by a Bitcoin veteran (see http://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Proof_of_burn) , but only Slimcoin uses it until now.

NEM has introduced some really interesting new tech that makes it very secure and security is something badly needed in crypto.

Its foundation has been built in a way that 3rd party devs will really be able to build some pretty amazing things on top of NEM and have full security.

Btc.

As far as crypto goes, none of them. You have to expand beyond a 24 hour cycle but keep it within a predictable range in order to guarantee positive results IMO.

To be honest I'd say none.. buy Bitcoin maybe.
No Altcoin I seen comes anywhere close to being as valuable as BTC is or will be most likely in a year.
And current market prices show this right now and I doubt any random alt that already exists is going to come close price wise.
So unless a new coin is made that beats the crap out of BTC ? ..save your money !

I believe it too. NXT is very cheap right now, this is the best time to buy.

Bitcoin is no doubt the No. 1, while I think the dogecoin is not bad.

Mintcoin, but longer than a year. The mintings compound and payoff more the longer you hold.
