Title: 100 BTC trust roulette
Post by: BurtW on July 14, 2012, 03:13:50 AM
Here are the rules.  I will pass 100 BTC on to someone I trust.  They will pass it on to someone they trust.  If the person you pass it on to runs with the BTC then you owe me the BTC!  If you get the BTC and you cannot think of anyone you would trust with it then just give it back to me.

My address is 1BurtWEejbnKeBRsvcydJvsNztB1bXV5iQ

Simple?  Who want the 100 BTC first?

Remember.  If you pass it on to someone you must totally trust them because if they "lose it in a hack" you personally owe the money back to me.

EDIT:  Two new rules!

You must either pass it on or give it back within 24 hours of getting it.

I want it back after 100 handoffs at most.

The path so far:

Code:

I'd throw in here if I wasnt going to be away from electronics for the next 3 days in about an hour as I can't gaurantee that I'd have time to pass it on before then, but I have a question.

Are you not supposed to choose the person you wish to recieve it, or have you personally decided to start it off by finding a list of cantidates that post here and from there choose?

Yes, I will chose from those that post here or if no one I trust posts I will go find someone.

Off to a rocky start.  We will see how it goes.

Once you get it then it is up to you to either contact one of your best friends to play or select from the people you know who have joined the thread.

Interesting. I had assumed it would only be through the former option, friends, but this adds more of a twist to it, I wonder if anyone but you will choose someone who posts here.

That debt would be between the hacked guy and the person that gave it to the hacked guy.  Hacked guy, if trustworthy would pay back out of their own pocket.  So only give it to people with the character and means to pay you back if  they lose it.

Aw man, I want to see how this plays out. Too bad I don't really have a rep here yet  :-\

Isn't six hours not much time for people to contact someone they trust (because of time zones, etc.?) It would be better if the time limit was 24 hours to pass the coins on.

"means" != everything in the same wallet :P

And yes, most people will need more than that else you'll get lots of returns

If you cannot find somone you trust enough to pass it on to in six hours then simply return it to me to the address in my OP.

But what if "trusted" person sends to fake person #1 then to fake person#2 then fake person #3. How do you link back to the real scammer? You will be going after 3 people who dont exist.

I don't quite follow this, if sock puppet 2 defaults then wouldn't sock puppet 1 be the one on the line & Me in the clear?

This could be solved if so by passing the responsibility back up the line, if SP2 fails to pass on the coins then SP1 is liable, but if SP1 also fails to reimburse the OP then Me is liable.

But, but - that'd be stealing & breach of contract by HK.
I'd have 6 hours to withdraw them from HK first anyway if I was going to do a runner & a smoke screen like that would be ideal to encourage trust, just sayin' ;) & nope I haven't got it yet :P

Edit: Oh shit, no I couldn't they're locked in for 8 weeks, unless I could persuade him that I made a mistake & he agreed to cancel the contract & refund.

It might be an equally fun side game to list who you wouldn’t send it to.

I wouldn’t send it to Matthew N. Wright only because his concept of time is skewed. Oh, you’d get it back but he would read six hours as six months.

I also wouldn’t send it to Vladimir Marchenko because he would invest it in a ASIC farm or a little plastic Bitcoin card and tell you that you will thank him for it later.

I wouldn’t send it to Magical Tux because you would need to provide several proofs of identification mailed to him and then the review process would take several months because he lost your first mailing.
Good one.

for the record, i PM'd Graet, but he must be out weekend partying or something.

Thanks everyone!

Well that was fun and interesting.  Should we do it again?  If so do you have any proposals for rule changes?

I’ll just leave this here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=8.0

The entire trading sub forum makes you nervous?  Or were you trying to give a more specific link?  Or, hmm, I guess I just do not follow the meaning of the link.

^^ cheers... PM'd someone with an invite to this thread :)

payb.tc,  Do you have someone in mind or are you going to send them back?

might just have to send them back, sorry to spoil the fun.

for the record, i PM'd Graet, but he must be out weekend partying or something.

okay this is a little embarrassing, but i just realised today that i accidentally got

Graet https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=7169;type=avatar

mixed up with

CIYAM Pty Ltd https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=5167;type=avatar

both grey-beard aussies, and apparently both about the same age. i'm fairly sure Graet is a trustworthy guy anyway, but that could have been an expensive mistake.

probably a good thing that i sent the coins back to burt!

This was a very interesting thread to watch.  The incentive to take the 100 BTC seems great because you wouldn't even be labeled a scammer for it.  But, you would essentially be writing off any chance of regaining a solid reputation.

Are reputations worth 100 BTC to some people?  Yes.  How many?  Who knows.

why not do this with 50 BTC, and put 50BTC into say PPT (yes just as risky)

Set the roulette going, max time you can hold money is for X days.

Then after Y days, profit from PPT compounded is split among all players, e.g. 7 weeks of PPT of 50BTC would let you give each person who didnt run 0.5BTC.

Hmm, interesting idea, some variant of this idea might be worth doing.  I will think on this a bit.

BurtW,

You seem to be a bit of a gambler. How about some poker some time, I know a great site.  ;)

I did play online quite a bit until I lost a few thousand when the government came in and "helped us all out" by shutting the site down and taking all of my money.

I have not tried to play online since that day.  However, I may go and try to play for BTC when I get some so called free time.

Hey does that Micon character play online poker for BTC at any of the online BTC poker sites?

That gives me an idea.

Not doing this type of gambling anymore because a lot of my BTC are now tied up in this bet:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=97094.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=97094.0)

I heard recently that PokerStars had bought Full Tilt and were going to make all the Full Tilt players whole.

I believe he's in some way invested in Seals With Clubs.  He's a "pro" on Seals, and some claim he's a part owner of the site.  This thread (http://pokerfraudalert.com/forum/showthread.php?456-Sealswithclubs-org-changed-to-sealswithclubs-eu-HMMMM) for instance starts by claiming Micon owns part of Seals, and quickly degenerates into a "bitcoin sucks" thread.
