You need to wait for a while especially if your computer is slow. It freezes on my spare netbook (Intel Atom) for like 5 mins before starting up. The same app loads almost instantly on my desktop (Xeon+SSD).

I do most of my computing on an Atom-powered netbook, and I wouldn't touch the original client with a 10 ft. pole.

I recommend blockchain.info's wallet, or some clever maneuvering at bitaddress.org or brainwallet.org to really double-up on security.

I've been using bitcoin-qt for more than a year now. What you are expiring is normal, especially on low end computers as the program have to go through it's cache. it can take awhile before it's ready for use.

It's common, just wait until it finished loading.
If you're using old computer and anti-virus, add Bitcoin-Qt to your anti-virus whitelist, maybe it'll speed up the loading.

Is there a particular reason that ATI is more suited to mining coin than nVidia cards? Pardon my ignorance, but I haven't done much research on mining since I never really planned on doing it myself. Now that you've said ATI > nVidia, mining seems to go out the window even more (GTX 570).
