Title: How can I make my BTC work instead of HODLing them?
Post by: Ig0r8 on January 23, 2015, 01:14:14 PM
Hi!
I have a small amount of BTC (like 10BTC) in cold storage. What would you suggest me to do to make some profit out of it? I used to HODL them, but now I want them to grow (even if its few satoshis a day... still better then nothing lol)
I'm not talking about HYIP or trading BTC/USD/other - because I don't understand how they work and I would easily loose money there.

Your best bet are casinos. You know that they have an edge so you could easily profit form that in a long run.

You can't say 10BTC is a small amount, you can start open business if you want to.
But, if you just want to invest your bitcoin, i think these option is great for you :
1. Invest at gambling site
2. Lend your bitcoin & get profit from interest rate
3. Gambling

$2000-3000 usd is not a large amount.. to many people it is quite a small amount.

#1 and #2 are a good idea.

Do not do #3.

A safer idea might be one of the BTC lending sites, such as https://btcjam.com/ (https://btcjam.com/), or https://bitlendingclub.com/ (https://bitlendingclub.com/)

Just take your time with both, and research the borrowers as much as you can before investing. Some will never repay, despite the ability to take them to court for defaulting. However, even with a few defaulters you could still expect a reasonable return on your investments.

I would suggest investing in an established gambling site. You will make money whilst pretty much holding onto your BTC.

If I were you I would continue to HOLD on to them without taking any risk. I understand that you are eager to see it grow but when we get involved in bitcoin, the concept and idea in the first place is already about growth. Imagine the infrastructure, adoption, going mainstream, globally recognized currency, that would make the price explode. For me that is good enough, and I only worry about security where I can have my bitcoin safe with me without taking unnecessary risk.

holdinh them actually make them more worth it than everything else, trading is risky now, unless you are pro, and mining equipment are useless, will never roi, unless you have free power

Thanks for nice answers!

1. Invest at gambling site
I would suggest investing in an established gambling site. You will make money whilst pretty much holding onto your BTC.
Can you please explain this a little broader? Maybe point me to one gambling site which is seeking investments?

Actually thats your worst bet (unless OP is known for being lucky).
IMO your best bet is investing in a crypto project you trust. I would put some of that in Maidsafe for example, but wait a while to see if we are right now in a bubble so you can get more for cheap. Crypto is a growing business and theres plenty of money to make at least long term.

If you want quick money start day trading and praying.

Give it time and some investment or interest on savings will emerge. You could always loan it to people too.

I do not have any links in front of me at the moment but many dice sites accept investments. Just dice used to be bitcoin and that was great however it has switched to an altcoin now. Take a look in the gambling section.

"Investing" your bitcoin is likely to lead to scams and losses. Just hold, that is your safest bet. If your up for risk check out okcoins futures market and learn how to trade before putting any future orders in.

Buy and resell ready made websites or sought for domains. I would avoid lending out.

You can deposit your coins to earn interest like this.

Invest in a dice site. This is also risky if someone like Hufflepuff comes along and wins then goodbye to your coins.

You could, just make sure you take escrow equal to or more than the loan amount and then it won't matter if they don't pay you back.

Im also interested in loans. Who pays the escrow? And how does it work like, as far as I know escrows own your coins and freeze them until the deal is done (the other party also puts it in the escrow) or the deal is canceled. But how is the other person going to make use of my bitcoins if they are stuck no the escrow? I just dont get it.

Hold 8 and invest 2 in casino bankroll, lending or cloud mining.

At what price did you buy the 10 BTC { Most people, think it's not growing, if it's hoarded, but I disagree.... If you bought low, and you sell, when it's passed that price, it has made you profit already }

There are loads of new crypto currency projects out there, in search of investment, but it might be a mine field, if you do not know how to spot a winning horse.  ;)

Take some of the BTC and day trade a bit, and see if you can profit off of that.

Just keep some of it in cold storage, you will never know, when the next killer APP might push Bitcoin into the mainstream and things will explode!

It is very unlikely to profit from day trading if you are not experienced in that field.

The only way I know to make exponential gains is in altcoins. But you need inside information and you probably just end up dumping on someone else's head. The only honest way is gambling. My vote is HODL for now

You could make more dollars then buy bitcoins or you could start a long position on bitcoin and you will profit if bitcoin's price rises.

Selling stuff for bitcoin is good idea, especially that it helps economy to grow. All other things are risky gambling.

Dude, haven't you realized the fucking game yet?  It's "are you smart enough to have been the guy holding the bitcoins?"

Through thick and thin, they'll try to get you to give up your coinz.  If you're smart, you'll say no.  If you're a  loser you'll say yes.  Such is the story of life.

Sensible thing to do is hold them for 10 years and buy more on the way.

If you like to speculate you can invest in an upcomming alt, but there is some risk involved.

Yeah but everyone wants to be rich, and you are not going to be rich holding the same amount of BTC (he probably hasn't got much).
So he wants more. No one wants to hold 1 BTC only and pray to St Satoshi that it will ever be worth 1 million.
You need at least 100 or something. Only holding gets you nowhere.

Lending in BTCJam is NOT gambling, it is investing. Just be wise about where you invest. Some people only pay attention to the return rate of interest, and lose their coins because the deal was just too good to be true.
There are many good borrowers on BTCJam, honest people with good credit and payment history. You really can make a decent profit.
