Title: Comparison of all known pools
Post by: SmokeTooMuch on May 22, 2011, 12:35:10 PM
Hey guys,

could one of you write an article that shows what the differences between the following pools are ?

  • http://bitcoinpool.com/ (http://bitcoinpool.org/)
  • http://eligius.st/ (http://pool.bitcoin.dashjr.org:8337/)
  • http://www.bluishcoder.co.nz/bitcoin-pool/ (http://pool.bitparking.com/pool + http://pps.bitparking.com/pool)

(are there more known pools ?)

Apparently there is one here http://gbyte.dk/ according to this post http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=9331.msg134769#msg134769 though I never saw any official announcement.

77.44 BTC for the pool script.
That's all it is about.
46.97 BTC if you buy the script encrypted...

Added three pools, still waiting for someone who will write a comprehensive guide of how to decide which pool to use.

You don't really need a comprehensive guide, here is about all you need to know:

Pools:

They're all more or less the same on a long timeline. Pick the one with the web interface you like the most.

Really you should pick several, and put them at varying priorities on your system, so if the main one goes down you have one or more backups.

You can use the -f command in poclbm to do this.

I would suggest using a wiki page instead. Something like this: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Comparison_of_mining_pools

Hola - I saw this post, and figured I'd make a day project of it!

Still a little kludgy. I'm open to input :)

Here's a mostly compiled list comparing the mining pools:

http://bcx.me/

EDIT: Sorting is botched on the numerical stuff (it's sorting by first digit x_x), will try to get that fixed soon.

Cool page. Eligius has an IRC channel : #eligius on FreeNode :) And the prop. fee for deepbit is wrong.

Also, do you fetch the hashrates dynamically ?

Sorting by pool rate and "workers" both result in an unsorted list.

Noted re~Eligius and Deepbit. Will try to fix that asap

I'm rocking some kludgy php web-scraping for the hash-rates right now (so I guess that counts as dynamic?). Admittedly, I'm not much of a web-programmer, so this is a learning experience :)

Corrections/Suggestions for you:

* Put "0" in the Block Fee column for BTC Mine like you did for BTC Guild.  They both have no fees and only optional donations.  The link you have there now is not about fees but is about their pool hopping protection algorithm.

* Put "NA" in the pay per share fee column for BTC Mine as they have no PPS option.

* Slush's pool uses the same score based system as BTC Mine (or perhaps it is more fair to say that BTC Mine uses the same system as Slush).  So put "No" in the proportional? column for Slush.

* Put 8% in the pay per share fee column for swepool.net since that is what their fee is (you currently have listed their payout instead of fee).

* You are missing http://www.continuumpool.com/.  The have a post in the forums here with their details: https://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=10038.0.  They are zero fee, score based (not proportional) and they do have a PPS option.

There is http://deepbit.net/json.php for fetching.

One more:

* Deepbit has a 10% fee for PPS.  It was only 7% for the "DDoS apology" period which ends in about 2 hours.

Most pools are providing such an interface (usually they don't make it public I guess, but you could ask the site admins for access to it).

Regarding the pool fees, the table misses the fact that some pools keep all the transaction fees. Eligius and BTC guild do for sure (they are open about it), the others I don't know, Deepbit seems to keep them too (or so it seemed to me), no idea about the others.

Got it all. Thanks for the great feedback everyone. I'll try to get this in tip-top shape when I get home later tonight.
