Title: Imageshack support on Bitcointalk Post by: VelvetLeaf on July 19, 2012, 02:42:47 AM If someone posted image that's hosted on imageshack, it will be shown only if the requirement is met :
- It's not a direct link image (thumbnail will be shown without problem) - If it's a direct link image, the visitor must use US / UK IP or the owner of the website already register the domain Otherwise, visitors will get the frog image like this : http://imageshack.us/img/blocked_login.jpg Since there're more than 8050 images http://www.google.com/search?q=site:bitcointalk.org+imageshack hosted on imageshack by bitcointak's user, it would be a wise move for the Administrator of this website to register bitcointalk.org domain here : http://stream.imageshack.us/content.php?page=register_domain Example of problem (if you're inside US / UK, use proxy / VPN from other country beside US and UK, you'll get the frog images) : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=88481.0 More article about this can be found by googling easily : http://www.techlineinfo.com/now-imageshack-service-is-not-available-for-unregistered-domains/ Title: Re: Imageshack support on Bitcointalk Post by: John (John K.) on July 19, 2012, 02:47:27 AM If someone posted image that's hosted on imageshack, it will be shown only if the requirement is met : - It's not a direct link image (thumbnail will be shown without problem) - If it's a direct link image, the visitor must use US / UK IP or the owner of the website already register the domain Otherwise, visitors will get the frog image like this : http://imageshack.us/img/blocked_login.jpg Since there're more than 8050 images http://www.google.com/search?q=site:bitcointalk.org+imageshack hosted on imageshack by bitcointak's user, it would be a wise move for the Administrator of this website to register bitcointalk.org domain here : http://stream.imageshack.us/content.php?page=register_domain Example of problem (if you're inside US / UK, use proxy / VPN from other country beside US and UK, you'll get the frog images) : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=88481.0 More article about this can be found by googling easily : http://www.techlineinfo.com/now-imageshack-service-is-not-available-for-unregistered-domains/ This +1. Theymos!!! ;D Title: Re: Imageshack support on Bitcointalk Post by: rjk on July 19, 2012, 03:45:46 AM Will that even work? Bitcointalk uses https:// for everything, and referrers are never passed when in secure mode like that. Or does imageshack try to scrape the thread and then authorize it? That would be unlikely and doubtful.
Title: Re: Imageshack support on Bitcointalk Post by: BadBear on July 19, 2012, 03:50:00 AM I didn't know people still used imageshack.
Title: Re: Imageshack support on Bitcointalk Post by: repentance on July 19, 2012, 03:53:55 AM Why not use imgur instead?
Title: Re: Imageshack support on Bitcointalk Post by: John (John K.) on July 19, 2012, 04:00:43 AM I didn't know people still used imageshack. They are using imageshack. I see the frog image all over the forums as my IP isn't from the US/UK range. :'(Title: Re: Imageshack support on Bitcointalk Post by: theymos on July 19, 2012, 04:24:54 AM Will that even work? Title: Re: Imageshack support on Bitcointalk Post by: theymos on July 19, 2012, 04:41:20 AM Is it fixed now? Imageshack links are now automatically translated so they take you through a proxy.

Looks working fine now, checked on https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=66337.0 and all images load for me.Press Shift + Refresh if you're still viewing the frog image to force clear the browser's cache. Thanks Theymos. Title: Re: Imageshack support on Bitcointalk Post by: John (John K.) on July 19, 2012, 05:06:31 AM Is it fixed now? Title: Re: Imageshack support on Bitcointalk Post by: theymos on July 19, 2012, 05:13:59 AM It'd be cool if someone would set up a proxy that added a "Stop using Imageshack" watermark to the image.
Title: Re: Imageshack support on Bitcointalk Post by: pekv2 on July 19, 2012, 05:16:29 AM Why not use imgur instead? Why not use dropbox and host images by HTTPS? Thanks Theymos. Ditto. I was reading this thread yesterday wondering what the hell everyone was so happy about considering no imageshack images load. Title: Re: Imageshack support on Bitcointalk Post by: pekv2 on July 19, 2012, 01:20:45 PM Why not use imgur instead? Why not use dropbox and host images by HTTPS? Well, imgur is nice n all, I like https as imgur does not offer this. Plus, using https images does not break the bitcointalk.org's security. P.s I run it :P its been running for the last 1.5 years, host about ~20k images, 4 servers behind it, should work :) Title: Re: Imageshack support on Bitcointalk Post by: rjk on July 19, 2012, 02:24:23 PM Hmm how about --> http://imgair.net ? The problem is existing posted images and future user content, since you can't really tell everyone never to use imageshack again. Nah, I don't run an imageshack proxy, the images are stored on our server's (in USA, UK and Italy) :P Title: Re: Imageshack support on Bitcointalk Post by: theymos on July 19, 2012, 05:46:18 PM Also, now none of the images load for me, and if I visit the link manually I get an error that says you aren't allowed to hotlink proxified images. Is it working now?
