Buying one for under 7$. Honestly, I think I'm overpaying.

Try e-bay.. I've seen some go for sub-$4 including shipping - so after postage and padded envelope, the seller probably got $2.something.  You think you'd be overpaying, but to the seller it's probably barely worth the bother.

Now, if this was for an Emerald or earlier model...

They are just useless. I don't know why people are still interested in buying them.
But still if you want to buy them, then just search it on eBay or amazon. Its available over there.

More for a novelty, not for the mining..remember Block Erupters was the 1st real miner

The first Bitcoin ASIC was the gen 1 Erupter Blade (which was not publicly sold for some time after its creation); the first publicly sold miner (to be delivered) was the gen 1 Avalon.

Avalon was actually out before the Blade was finished. Ironically I think BFL had the first ASIC (But of course not in a customer hands til months later)

I don't think BFL had their chips done until early FEB.  They had a series of failures before they got a working one; remember "Single SC shipping by OCT 2012"?  I remember checking the hashrate daily in early 2013.  There was a spike before the gen 1 avalons shipped (they caused a much larger spike).  AM originally offered shares rather than hardware; then had a series of auctions around the time of gen 2 avalons.  I do think AM's first batch (used as a farm) was before the gen 1 avalon.  Of course this could also have been Yifu mining before shipment.

i'm trying to work out exactly what a "Sapphire" version is, i have 3 working v3's that i was going to hack to their deaths, if you want them though?

im happy to throw them at you, but you pay postage? (i think the postage is going to be a killer if you're outside Australia)

If it says 'Rev 3.00' on the board, then that's the Sapphire.  Beyond that there appear to have been 3 styles of heat sink production runs.


Which is why I'd be a lot more interested in an Emerald (or other early production) :)

hmm, 3 styles of heatsink eh? i know of the iodised bitcoin logo'ed heat spreader, and the one with fins on the original, whats the 3rd type?

as for the emerald ones, they have "ver:2" silkscreened on it?

I meant within the production runs :)  There's the matte, the semi-gloss metallic and the spun metal look (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=280961.msg3005137#msg3005137).
In terms of geometry, I'm only aware of bare (i.e. no heatsink at all), the early extruded heat sink, and the heatspreaders as being 'official'.  Crapton of heatsink configurations from users out there, with varying degrees of 'overclocking!' claims ;)

I can only presume there was a 'Rev 1.00' at some point, even if never in released board form :)

Well, if i ever get my hands on one (i would probably get more lucky getting a block with an sapphire then getting a emerald), i now know who'd want it

but yes, OP, if you haven't already gotten any, my offer still stands, since i had 9 of them and PSU killed 6, you can have the 3 remaining working ones..
