Title: New to bitcoin mining: ButterflyLabs Mini Rig SC - preordered it Post by: New2BTC on July 21, 2012, 04:09:00 AM Hi all,
I am rather new to BTC mining and I pre-ordered the BFL Mini Rig 'SC' for $30k. It mines at 1,000 GH/s! Now, I have a few questions: Once I get it, how do I start mining with it? Does MY personal computer specs matter any when it comes to mining with this machine? Anything else I should know? Thank you all! Title: Re: New to bitcoin mining: ButterflyLabs Mini Rig SC - preordered it Post by: mr_gant on July 21, 2012, 04:12:53 AM BFL is a bit controversial at the moment. Bear in mind that if these machines end up shipping, they'll dramatically increase mining difficulty, so it's difficult to say how much your 1TH/s will earn. See here (http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/4052/is-butterfly-labs-reputable-should-i-preorder-the-sc-jalepeno) for more info.

But no need to worry about it because by the time you get it this will be well documented.

I run multiple clusters of 20x FPGA boards off of 1 computer per cluster. The computers just run AMD e350 dual core, very low power setup. Less money to build and to run than just abot anything. Newegg, etc have specials on barebones with the above that just need minimal memory and a cheap HD. My controlling computers only use about 35W.

With, let's say, the proposed jalapeno system, I would only need to get a bare bones computing rig with low ram/hd, as there is no real need for storage or having a lickity-split cpu, right? As in the Jalapeno will do everything I need on the mining side of things other than connecting to the network to get the algorithm problems to work on? I suspect a lot of people are going to be out a lot of money once this shit goes down. It seems like too big of an operation at this point to just disappear entirely, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if the units they sell don't deliver 100% on what buyers were promised. Especially since their pre-orders are can only be paid for through 2 different types of non-refundable payment methods. I would have started with a jalepeno myself, so if shit does hit the fan at least you have a coffee warmer.
