Title: Want to buy - the world's first 25 BTC block
Post by: ripper234 on July 23, 2012, 06:34:36 AM
(Ordinarily this thread might belong in the marketplace forum, but I think it actually doesn't).

Somewhere around December 2012, the first ever 25 BTC block will be mined. I want it!

I'm willing to pay 30 BTC to whoever delivers it to me intact, with up to 2-3 "hops" from the original mining transaction. The item in question is the entire 25 BTC block (+ tx fees), without being split.

Think it's worth more than 30 BTC? (Collectible value)
Feel free to out-bid me.

problem is that some pools(p2ppool included) are splitting the 25btc. We cannot be sure that the block will stay intact

It will be a shame then.

yup. good luck hunting down those bitcoins. However, if you make quite some advertisement, so that everybody knows, then you may be able to buy them back from all the mining recipients...

or you could just make a deal with the people who run all the largest pools. As long as people are paid for what they mined I don't think they care what block it came from.

If I manage to mine it, I will auction it and it would be alot more than 30BTC. ;)

BTW, the point of this thread wasn't really to buy this block (I'm sure I would get outbid).
It's just interesting to think about.

Beyond the first blocks mined by satoshi, I don't know of another block that is worth much more than its raw content ... and those early blocks are not for sale.

Maybe the last 50 BTC block?!

Maybe. I won't pay much for that particular block, but that could be just me.

If you really had some money I would take a gamble and aproach the top 3 pools.  Offer to prepay them a premium directly if they use a vanity address (1st25BTC....) you generated as the coinbase for that block.

Then it will be 0 hops.  Of course even w/ top 3 pools you only have a ~50% chance of getting that particular block.

You probably have some of those coins somewhere. Those blocks are ancient.

Maybe the last 50 BTC block?!

Definitely this will be more interesting as 50s are running out. 25s you can get another 4 years.

I definitely would try to get it to a coinbase transaction and put it on a physical coin. Actually I hope Cascaci[wtf? how do you write that name???]ius makes a series of coinbase coins.

Just need to be lucky and hope a solo miner finds it!

Also it would be worth more if the PRIVATE KEY was delivered to you and NOT through a TRANSACTION. This would insure the block stayed in MINT condition.

You would also have to be sure that EVERYONE in the BITCOIN COMMUNITY was aware of this seek so that when the block is found that there will be no problem finding it's way to you.

I feel that 30BTC is too low of a value for this. I feel this block should go on auction and upon the winning bit a contract is written out explaining that the private key will be released to the highest bidder. If the block is spent by either party than there could be trouble.

Have you seen my post?

Yeah, I imagine the actual value of this block will be quite larger, possibly 50 or even 100 BTC.
I can't afford to start collecting rare blocks though, it's too expensive for my blood ... I'll surely get out-bid by some early adopters ;)

Both are in their original addresses.

But if the private key is delivered to you, then the deliverer also has the private key. And then, you don't really own the address. For this reason, getting the major pools to pay it out to 1st25... directly would be better.

I bid 60BTC on the 25BTC on the awarded Private Key only if it was solo mined, no pool.

Is anyone interested in last 50 BTC, first 25 BTC or some other exotic uncirculated coins ?
We can negotiate this.

What would something like this run us Tycho.  It is a compelling idea.

+1, great way to do it. That way, you can have no trust necessary in regards to passing private keys, since the pool only needs the address to mine to. And, multiple pools can all work on the same address.

I think they should be auctioned off!  Think about what the genesis block is worth right now?

Do it! You will only gain the profit the auction brings.

I think an auction would be a great idea for these 'collectors items'. The proceeds of which could be split between the finding pool and a good Bitcoin cause.

I would definitely be in the hunt for the last 50BTC block.  Can someone organize this with the pools?  I know its not a guarantee but it still would be worth trying.

hmm, so to raise interest and not have the "special coins" destroyed an hour after creation, you should auction it before you have it. Wonder which auction platform allows auctioning items with an unknown seller :)

There is auctions sub-forum here at bitkointalk! It would be great to donate money from sales to forum .
