Title: "Trolls" are the most valuable asset on btctalk
Post by: blockchain slavery on February 06, 2015, 10:41:25 PM
Newbees need to know:

In 98% of cases a person on here is called 'a troll' or being accused of spreading 'FUD' that person is actually right.

Just to share my experience with you.
On this board everyone is full of shit and the scammers are the most friendly and most 'official' ones. We have seen this time and time again.

Don't fall for the scammers and to-the-moon-pumpers.

Not sure if you're serious, just trolling, or trolling to defend the trolls. I strive to be a friendly and 'official' person without in fact being, as you put it, "full of shit", or being a scammer.

Actually agree. I find it funny that everyone critisizing bitcoin or expecting shit prices gets called a troll. Sometimes they have good arguments.

You're quite right about some "scammers" that you're talking about. But most of the time, they do troll and scam people around here. So yeah, a bit no-no for the 98%.

Where'd you get that number anyway?

I think a lot of "trolls" especially low activity ones have an agenda.  Could they help.... maybe.  It depends on their agenda.

The guys who have the time to troll are usually the same guys who have made a shed load of cash threw BTC

They have managed to gain a lot of knowledge with their spare time so needless to say they have probably been around the block and can spot what others cannot.

The 98% is abit to low ball in my opinion but they are a friendly bunch and we should all take a moment and praise the trolls.

Long live the BTCT trolls

trolls are basically putting some statement or arguments which make no complete sense. However, if the criticism about the system and even highlighting the weaknesses with proof and evidence, that is not trolling.

I have seen so many trolls here who post something else not pertaining to the thread content and then get banned for the same. It is just too much to deal with them as they themselves don't know what they are doing while others do it for fun.

Of course there are always loud people that pretend to be always right, by ignoring the things they said and failed

I think it is more like 99.5% of people that are wrong here. But on serious note do not create some numbers like that from thin air. There is no telling if someone is right or wrong in raw numbers. Just listen to people, think and use your common sense and you will be fine I guess.

Seams like someone got tricked :]
There are tons of those altcoin p&d's that seek attention and fresh blood, but common sence tells you when there is something wrong.

"Sell me this pen" quote example applies to all altcoins, its all about presentation, because there is no real progress thats being made with altcoin chains.
bitcointalk is populated with traders and oportunity seekers, and noone is here just to pass by time, so watch out next time

cheers

None whatsoever. Trolls are just troll. They have no value or real use for anybody. Trolls just tend to be quite stupid so maybe they are valuable only for scammers and similar individuals. I just don't agree that they are valuable, they are not - at all.

Harry i reckon you may well get a BTC or two trolling away for some whale to cause panic on a coin he wants to accumulate depend how good of a job you do i guess.

Bye..bye... to the ignore box you go!

They provide a reality check to the forum now and then.
I don't think anybody would be willing to pay for their services.

unfortunately, there is quite lot of spam and misinformation on this forum (probably a bit more than on a regular internet forum). It is actually
very interesting and very educational to look how the discussion develops in this thread. That gives you a slight idea how easy someone can be called a FUDer, or a scammer here, even though that person may be actually right, or there is just a slight difference in your opinions, or the discussion doesn't bring much to the topic.

Trolls are great, but i think the scams on here are a better asset. you can learn a lot about human nature just watching it all. Gawminers is a good recent example.

Oh my... By that logic, basically EVERYTHING on this forum would be true, including totally opposite ideas.

Won't call you a troll of FUDder, I'm afraid you might think it means you're right.

the problem is some users call other users as troll if they're against or have an opposite idea. IMO trolls are the ones who seek attention and don't know how to make their time productive.

Over thousand scammers. Actually one can limit it to under 100 as scammers make new accounts instantly after getting a negative reputation and come here to scam someone. I don't know why the forum can't ban their IP address.  >:(

Wouldn't call them an asset by any means, though some of them can be quite funny. There are a lot of scammers aswell but I suppose that's to be expected on a forum like this. Not much we can do about either unfortunately.

the problem of not accepting an opposite point of view is unfortunately very common in BTT. That is especially annoying in the altcoins section, where group of people that invested in that given coin is treating the coin as kind of religion-like belief. Don't dare to say something that goes against their "official" line, otherwise you would be called a troll in the best case.

Title: Re: "Trolls" are the most valuable asset on btctalk

It's true that everyone has an opinion, and it wouldn't be the same if everyone thought the same, just agreed with everything, and just went along with the herd mentality.

That said, the role "Trolls" play here in Bitcointalk lately is simply to derail topics and persuade newbies to side with their agendas.  Most of the time it's to push some altcoin or just to get a rise out of everyone.  As for the "Scammers", sometimes they're easy to notice by their sign up date and their 1 post scam letters, sometimes they're more intricate and wait awhile longer, before they pounce.

So overall I wouldn't say it's a good/evil debate, because if everyone just went along with things, it'd be a boring ass place.  Trolls play their part, and as long as it's not malicious, and intended to scam, then they also belong here.  Scammers on the other hand, have no place in Bitcointalk or the whole Bitcoin community in general, and if we all do our part to point and weed them out, it would help to legitimize Bitcoin.
