I'd like to discuss and speculate with you about who is going to bring out the next generation of mininghardware, when, how fast it will be and so on..

What do you guys think?

Will 20nm be the "next big thing"?

Maybe a Bitmain S6 (still current generation-technology tho) already on its ways?
Which other manufacturers will still play the game?

It'll probably be Spondoolies Tech or KNCMiner bringing the next generation ASIC chips.

I remember KNC were the first to the market with 28nm nanoprocess and the first with 20nm nanoprocess, so if that trend continues, then they'll be the first with "Solar" 16nm chips:

FYI, this is not an endorsement of KNC, as they've proven some shadiness with their business practices, QA and shipping disasters, suspect self mining KNC Cloud, and bungled pre order model with Titan.  Just stating facts about being the first to market with the newest chips.

I would trust SP.  They always seem to be good on making it fair if it under preforms.  KNC on other hand I would not touch.

With BTC so low I think it will slow down next gen.   I think current gen underclocked will be best option for a while.

KNC is determined to steer away from consumer, home miner, market and determined to focus on cloud mining and industrial mining. Just say'ng.

If knc stays away from home miner for long time will stay out of cash sometime
and since with mining and selling the price goes down they better think to hold the btc they mine and
sell the equipment...

Very likely we'll see the S6 come out this quarter based on the same BM1384 as the S5.  I guarantee Guy and Zvi are not sitting on their laurels, but are hard at work developing the successor to the SP20/30 line.  I don't think they're going to jump on the 20nm/16nm/14nm process yet, but will continue to optimize their 28nm chips.  KNC... they've already done the 20nm... maybe they're working on optimizing it.  It's industrial mining only for those guys, though.  AM and Friedcat are likely to push something out the door as well, but I'd be more inclined to go with Q2 there.

Oh well... those are my speculations :)

Spondoolies' next gen will still be using 28nm and is months away. AM have always said Feb-March for mass production of their next gen chips so they might already have them.

Bitfury is ready to go soon too.  And its still  on 28nm.

And reportedly, they're still working on 16nm process, so kudos to them.

Bitfury will mine with these chips first and then sell bulk and wholesale to franchises. 

If they release any chips to public will be "highly" marked up, I dont see them making any retail machines for consumer use in the future.

According to Spon the next launch of miners is fall 2015…
I would rather have an 1.2 TH miner with 3-400 watt than a 1.7 TH miner at 1200 Watt and then a better cooling setup of last row of chips inthe sp20, since they get a little too warm.

I think the competition is Hashra and not Spon.

Also - Mining in Sweden will kill them. Cost of employees and taxes is just way too high to compete.

But difficulty might be 70-80 Billion by then.

I think we won't see real, relevant hardware improvements until 2016, also we must consider Bitcoin price in Jan 2016 to see how investors will react, this will stimulate production and real innovations. If Bitcoin price will skyrocket, ASIC technology will also speed up.
