Another excellent tipping service in the bitcoin community,ChangeTip, has gotten some even better traction, and done a great job at pushing the tipping ecosystem forward. So today we’d like to show our support for them and encourage existing users of our tip button to migrate over to ChangeTip

Insread of competing with ChangeTip, Coinbase has decided to focus on its main purpose of providing Bitcoin infrastructure, encouraging tippers to use ChangeTip. Coinbase said that it will help its tip button users transition to ChangeTip in the coming weeks, noting that the Coinbase tip button is set to be totally shut down by April 1, 2015.

Not a user of coinbase but neutral on it, kind of wondering why a button takes so much load on their infrastructure that it can't be duplicated but whatever.

Cool story bro.. I am migrating away from CoinBase because I can't get verified with them. I'm using Circle now.

A tipping button from Coinbase seems awkward. They're a bank, they don't process commercial transaction payments. It's probably a smart move.

It's quite fine, I think.

Coinbase is really really really good at what they do.  Provide a service where one can buy Bitcoin instantly using their bank or credit card.

Changetip deals with tips for content creation, as well as, fundraising with small amounts very very well.

Coinbase not cannabalizing Changetip is a good thing in the Bitcoin startup space, instead of competing, they can potentially partner off one another one day.

The best part of this is seeing ChangeTip bot in Youtube and people giving bitcoin each other. It always spawns so many comments like "wow wtf is that"? and people get interested.
If you have enough bitcoins to give for free please give people in youtube some satoshis.

Changetip is great service and now we can do with our coins what fiat and plastic cant do in their wet dreams. I guess we anyway dont need Coinbase for sending tips. Not realy fan of Coinbase, using them only for small amounts and everyday use but they are doing ok and from yesterday i can buy bitcoins in Croatia using their service so it is great. If everyone stick to what he is doing best in crypto world, we will have short way to the moon.

This is not their primary line of business, and they were not even attempting to make any money off of tipping.

The only reason they had the feature available in the first place was to help increase overall adoption of bitcoin via allowing people to receive funds from tips. However changetip has this portion of the market under control so they are really not needed anymore

Good that it has come about because of ChangeTip's success and not because they found it unprofitable.

In my view Coinbase is only for US citizens who wants to bow before the pressure of government to reveal ALL information about themselves and sacrifice their privacy to benefit big brother. {Ask the other telecommunication companies in the US.. if you want to grow big, you will have to reveal ALL}

I am also not a hypocrite and can understand why they have to do that, but it's a sad day, when you have to sacrifice your privacy to enable you to spend your money.

ChangeTip makes things so much easier and when they enforce the same kind of KYC rules and regulations, I will simply stop using them, and tip people directly to their public address or start using a service, not regulated in such a manner.

APRIL FOOLS!! No but seriously, coincidence? I think not!

Actually, I think so. But still, let's keep these conspiracy theories up.
